1989 560 SEL AMG Japanese Import | 2014 A180 CDI AMG SPORT
This morning, had a set of 4 x Falken Ziex ZE914 225/50/16 on my AMG 16 penta they will be going on my SEL ready for summer , £357 including fitting to your door, not bad, thread pattern looks nice to.

A lot of people are not aware of this but the premium, mid range tyres have 6mm sips ,(slits on the rubber tread, thats what gives you the grip) where as budget will have 3 mm , if your looking for tyres on your every day car, the little extra is worth it in the long run, but the SEL will only be used on dry days when ever those are.

I had those Falken Ziex ZE914 tyres on my C220cdi estate (rears only).

Grip, wet and dry, was excellent.

They wore quicker than any tyre that I have ever used. They are the only tyre that I have had on this car that did not achieve over 20K miles. The car has now done over 320K miles, so I have lots of experience of different tyres. This was the first time I bought non-premium tyres. I was seduced by the new tyre ratings.

What mileage did they reach? 9,700 only.

They were replaced with Dunlops.

I will only be doing 2,000 miles a year car, so didn't want to buy premiums as tyres get brittle over the years, my intention is to use as a weekend car, the rubber is softer compared to most i looked at prior, i.e pirelli, Bridgestone are good rubber! had to replace at 20,000miles & rears are still on even after 40,000miles on my company vehicle. But thats 150 each corner.

The new a-e rating is nonsense its just government trying to make buying tyres more transparent, what it comes down to, is you get, what you pay for.
