New Vito Sport - Indium Grey

My previous van was a 180bi t,VW are over hyped as it was not a patch on the Vito.

Picked up my Sport - lots of changes to the old one - first impressions / comments. They've moved the bloody key to the left hand side of the steering wheel. I spend 5 minutes trying to push my key into the air vent!! RH stalk mounted gear select. Super light steering - great steering wheel. Flappy paddle gear options with 'auto - comfort? - eco' switchable selections ??. Always on engine stop unless you turn it off. I thought that this would annoy me but it works brilliantly, just have to trust it. Weird. Amazing lights - again auto as in auto dip.

When I drove it away I think I was a little disappointed as everything was different and I was out of my comfort zone but having put a few miles on it and things become familiar - it's a beast.

Interior is not quite so plush as the older models - a little more plastic and less lining in the van BUT lets keep it in perspective - It's a VAN - the load floor has some funky Gizmo fastening system. I like it.

I'd rather walk than buy a vw!

LOL I've not owned a Transporter but I've driven a few and they seemed OK. Two of my friends went from Sport-X V6 Vitos to top spec. T5s and said they preferred them. Both also said they felt quicker (without remapping or anything), which must have been down to gearing as they obviously had a few less bhp.

The T6 Transporter is brand new (like the W447) so it will be interesting to see how that works out. I'd keep an open mind now whereas if there'd been a V6 option I'd have gone straight for another Vito.

Not that I'm actually looking to change at the moment - the 120 is fine for now.

I used to ( and still occasionally do ) drive vans in previous jobs , and the best vans we ever drove were the petrol VW LT35 panel vans , with the Merc 508 a close second ; the Sprinters which came later are rubbish by comparison .

Merc vans were very good at rusting though .

I think that prior to 2006 there was a widely publicized issue with rust - since then I believe that they have been Galvanized and that bogey has been well and truly laid to rest - certainly none of mine (all later than 2007) have given me any issues. PLUS my new one in Indium Grey (real world colour Bronze'ish) should hopefully mask any metal rash that erupts! It's going to be a damn site easier to keep looking clean than my black ones were.

Ref the VW - regardless of the bhp that they wring out of the 2.0 I would choose the Merc - it's the badge! Just holding my breath for the emission cheat storm to spead and hit now.

Another quick comment on the van - read the manual - couldn't pair my iphone (doh!) - quick call to Merc and they talked me through easily. Moral - Don't read the fing manual. Dealer was spot on as well.

Someone asked for some pics - I will try and put them up tonight.

I've been on the hunt for a Vito Sport X lots of rough vans out there might consider one of the new 190 bhp Sports if I don't find one interested to see how the new vans stack up

This was interesting - same commute home my old bus was 33mpg

A new front end with newer engines doesn't make the T6 a new to the market van? but more of yet another 'face lift':dk:

Quick update I drove a 116 and a 119 ,honestly I'm a little disappointed the steering feels vague and disconnected from the road and I think doesn't pull as strong as the last one .
I just wish I could find a v6 ...:-(!

You and many others. The demand for the V6 is very high with correspondingly high prices and they don't hang around the dealers very long by the look of things. Two year old Compact Dualiner with less than 6,000 miles with COMAND and some extras of any interest?

GVM sounds nice to me I could be interested

I need a panel van mate and has to be new ,many thanks for the offer.

Fair enough. I never thought I would contemplate selling my Vito but the current demand/prices has me wondering…that and my current disillusionment with MB. It would have to be a very good offer to tempt me to sell, though.

What spec is yours Bruno? When did you order it?

I'm thinking about one. On my 3rd transit now and fancy moving up this time and like the new shape Vito.

Ant.

Hi Ant mine is a 119 cdi bluetec auto with nearly every extra going lol!
The only thing I didn't required was the parking sensors because I'll run my.own reverse and front cameras so it would be pointless spending nearly a grand on that .
I choose flint grey .
I've ordered it in December.

Wow. What a spec. Did you test drive the new shape before ordering?

I'll be wanting the same model with auto but I'll not be able to afford many extras. Maybe you could advise me of any vital extras that I could consider?

Look forward to seeing pics and hearing your views on it.

I definitely recommend the auto box ,led lights and confort seats everything else is according to individual taste and priorities.
I did drove a 116cdi and a 119 cdi couldn't tell much the difference although I was a little disappointed with the way it drives I prefer my old van in that matter.
I'll post some pictures as soon I get it .

I'm definitely going for the 119 Auto. Ideally I'd like the reversing camera. (Got one in my tranny. Really handy for lining up trailer hitch to the towbar)

And need twin passenger seats for times when we go out as a family.

Other than that I guess the sat nav would be nice.

Take care. Ant.
