Two months of innocent driving before the MOT expires in October.

Nice looking car. I have owned two W123s and find them to be cars of character. I think that the steel wheels your car has are so much better than the optional alloys of that era. Congratulations on being the owner.

You infer the car will not pass the forthcoming MOT, is this expected and WHY?

Brian – the W123 is a nice example (sub-80,000 miles, original first aid kit etc.) but I do indeed have concerns ahead of its next MOT – the main one being rust, rust, rust. The car is in fact several shades of green! Runs like a dream though… I have picked up a Haynes Manual but expect new posts under Engine, Bodywork and Electronics!

I will also be looking for a good specialist in London/South East…

Welcome to the forum 31records. I love the car you have. This was the first mercedes I had. Mine was the 200 model (year 1979). When I became her owner in 1994 she had 320K km. Two years later I left her with 40K km more to the next owner (the SIXTH!!!). I had no any trouble with her, till the last day of our ...relation. I still remember the smooth rolling of that car.
And no rust at all..(lucky me .. I was in south Italy...).

W123 models are very robust and well engineered ; they are easy to fix and keep going forever . Many of us have fond memories of them , I have had a 280E , a 280CE and a 280TE at different times ; they were all very good cars .

A very useful contact for you is a gentleman called Mark Cosovich : he is based in Wales , near Swansea , and runs a garage called 'W123 World' . Mark is probably the UK's leading W123 expert and restorer ; he organises the official Mercedes-Benz Club's national W123 day every year when a great many of these cars gather and Mark gives technical seminars on some aspect or another . As well as restoring , he also dismantles some of these cars and sells secondhand parts , besides remanufacturing some parts and sourcing difficult to get new parts .

Sadly , he does not have a website , but his telephone number is 01792 846888 , or 07714 089936 . Although a very busy chap , he always seems to find time to chat on the phone and advise people on any aspects of their W123's .

Hi Owen, your car looks great I like the colour. Welcome from a fellow W123 owner, these cars will never let you down and and are a joy to drive, I had a 1982 W123 200 saloon that was totally reliable for 18 years and currently have a 1984 W123 Coupe that I've had for 9 years.

How’s the ride going car looks great, I’ve just bought myself a 123 hoping to get it ready for next April, I’m new and looking for complete service kit, haven’t driven car yet so all new to me I’m like a kid at Xmas .
