So last week I was unfortunate enough to end up with a cracked windsceen after a stone hit it on a dual carriageway.

I contacted my insurance who put me onto a national glazing company. I enquired if the replacement screen would be a genuine Merc one or a generic one. Was told it would be generic but i could ask for genuine merc one but would take a bit longer to process. Decided on the latter and i'm pleased to say the insurance gave the go ahead to get a genuine Merc screen. Its getting fitted tomorrow.
I'm gonna have to go through the glass beading protection again with my Gtechniq or H2Go!! It's getting cold now so not the best temps to be applying....

    Hi,
You have had a much better experience than I have. I was unfortunate enough to have a brick thrown from a bridge and luckily only suffered a ‘bullet-hole’ which fractured the screen. That was 12th December and latest forecast From insurance is that on 28th Jan... they can give me a delivery date!! Apparently Merc have been on a 3 week Christmas break and on “back order”. That’ll be 7 weeks since the incident.... dissilusioned

You timed it badly. Merc shutdown *all* parts ordering from 20th December until 2nd January as they did a major systems upgrade. First time they did that. My UK dealer was quite surprised that all the parts they ordered that were in the UK did turn up on the first day it was back and all the stuff coming from Germany has been arriving too.

Interestingly it meant on 3rd of Jan when every dealer got their parts for the broken cars in their workshop the online authentication for SCN coding etc was over-whelmed so we couldn't do firmware updates as Xentry Diagnosis couldn't log in.

    Cheers
    Richard
