Newbi to MB AMG

Hello All

Quick potted history of my cars

92 Nissan 200SX S13
97 Nissan 200SX S14
95 R33 GTR import
2000 W R34 GTR V Spec UK
2003 Nissan 350Z
2002 C32 AMG
1999 Porsche 911 C4
2002 Porsche 911 C2
2007 CLS 63 AMG W219

As a drivers car, 911 is the complete package

But with having to transport family (no more enthusiatic cornering is allowed) my CLS is fine.
Handling/Ride is stil lbiased towards safety+comfort but the heart is definitely the Engine and the 6.2 is fantastic unit.
I plan to get Secondary CAT and X pipe in Feb and will then look to keep it as long as possible
I love the C63 but like the styling and exclusivity of the CLS just a bit more...

Good luck with your next purchase

Well time for a quick update :

So far I've looked at an immaculate 2010 car with FSH and 34k miles on the clock, and loved it ......... But I did take into account the pre face lift cylinder head bolt issues and decided to put the money i'd put aside for a remap and LSD into the overall money pot, which gives me enough to look at the facelift cars which offer the later transmission and peace of mind in the case of the cylinder head bolt issues.

Now, I've been on forums long enough to know that you only hear the horror stories and not all the good stories, but I decided that for the extra few £££ a facelift car is within my budget (Just) and would give me a little more peace of mind.

So going to look at a 2012 car this weekend on sale from a private seller, who purchased the car new in September of 2012. It has 31k on the clock, Full Service History, in Iridium Silver, 19" wheels (Unfortunately the black versions) but I guess I can always get these refurbished in silver.

He recently purchased another new Mercedes and what they offered him px for the C63 wasn't what he expected (Aren't all dealers the same.... LOL). So i've already made him an offer, on the understanding that the car is as described. Now just got to hold on until the weekend.

The car is a little short on options, but that's been factored into the price, i'll update you after the weekend.

Jay....... I do remember you, and I did indeed take you out for a spin in the Cosworth, think I'd just had the Norris Motorsport engine fitted, still remember it put out well over 400bhp, which was a lot back in the day.

Looks like we have similar taste in our cars.

Have to try and catch up when I find the right car, won't be too long I don't think, money burning a hole in my pocket.....LOL.

And yes we were on M3 Cutters as well, I loved the E46 M3 and I had a really nice one, but it was so good it just did everything so well, but I missed the excitement of the Cosworth...... I'm feeling exactly the same now with the Audi, hence me choosing the C63 AMG over the E60 M5.

Also appears to be more scope for tuning the AMG over the M5 (At a reasonable cost..... Relatively Speaking of course).

So it'll be a Quaife LSD (The same as I fitted to the Cosworth ironically) and a remap to just over the 500bhp I hope, then it should be an entertaining car, with just the suspension to sort. As mature (Old) as I am, I never stop playing with cars. When I need to really give myself a fright I take the Fireblade out, only full blown supercars keep with that. I just had that fitted with a RaceFit Exhaust System and a remap.

When I say i'm looking for a particularly clean AMG, then you probably remember the standard I'm looking for......

I'm guessing we have a similar affliction........LOL.

It keeps me out of trouble.

Cylinder head bolt issues were not pre-facelift issues so to speak. They affected a handful of 08/58/09 car's. That's all. The rest are fine.

Thanks for that info, but I'm going by the engine numbers.

Any Engine Build Number after # 569xx60 060658 has the revised cylinder head bolts.

I guess a test drive in a decent C63 will result in a decision. But I love the styling and size of the C63. My TVR wasn't the best handling car by a long way, very tail happy, not the most reliable engine, and crashed over every pot hole and threatened to kill you every time you took it out in the wet, but that car gave me the most enjoyment of any car I've driven...... LOL.

TVR all the way! I still miss my Cerbera!

Very true Jules..... and they're appreciating at an alarming rate. I sold mine with 19k miles for 16k about five years ago, easily a 25k car now. I did give them a look again, but I need something more reliable with four seats.

Anyone who's had a Tuscan will recognise the underside......

Welcome along. I do recognise your E39

I too have moved through the German car ranks and have ended up at AMG

Your car history is very good, makes me miss a lot of my previous metal

Thanks Andy, quite a few ex BM drivers on here and a few who have moved form E60 M5's which is a good indicator for me. The C63 always gets compared against the M3, from a performance point of view, but I honestly rate it between the M3 & M5. The C63 isn't a car you can throw around country roads, but neither is the M5, that's M3 territory. I think the C63 & M5 are more suited to motorways and dual carriage ways, which is where I drive mostly, but they're still capable cars on A & B Roads.

Going to look at my second C63 on Sunday, a silver face lift 2012 car with low miles. Looking forward to it.

Yep agree with that, I moved from an E39 M5 - e60 M5 - 997 Turbo and have the CL63 now

Hope the viewing goes well

Yes that's me jim :thumb:
I remember your standard of cars so I'm expecting a mint example as always ;)
If I'm honest I still miss the buzz of the cossie nothing seems to do what they do! Still find myself looking at them now
If I remember right I'm sure pcs isn't to far from you? For tuning and maintenance there excellent!! All of the work on mine has been done there! And even now I ring and ask alsorts of questions and they are always happy to help!!
Let me know when your heading to any meets shows ect if I'm free will head out :thumb:

Also the saff still looks amazing!!

Thanks Jay, I still miss them too.

Yes, I'll be trying to attend any meets that are going on. I collected the car two nights ago and now I'm itching to get the clay bar and carnuba out......LOL. PCS ????? Is that the place just off the A3, i believe it is and they appear to have a good reputation. Basically I'm looking at a remap to start with and then remove the secondary decats and I'll be happy with that.
