I think I've read that Japanese-market cars use different frequency bands to European-market cars, and if so the radio will not work. It cannot be reset; you have to replace the head unit.
Not sure weather of any interest to the OP, my obsidian black 06, & 72K miles, (new full engine replaced under warranty @23k miles), will be going on sale shortly, owned by myself from November 06 with 6k miles, brought from Birmingham Mercedes,( only other owner) and I have been threatening to sell my car for past 3 years, but it is still with me, every thing on my car works, my moto is, if it does not work, I get it fixed, it is booked into detailer on 28th Feb, and will going up for sale 6th March, full history, by Mercedes, PCS, MBS, and MB medway (later 3 well known independant mercedes specialists), no end of paper work, from original sales advert, and sale receipt, an appearance in Mercedes enthusiasts magazine, have copy of mag, and shit loads of service and other invoices, inc the engine replacement FOC invoice from Eastbourne Mercedes (would have been £31K), car is fitted with lots of carbon fibre, brabus brakes calipers, DTM style flat bottom steering wheel with alloy paddles, 19" IV two piece AMG alloys, (currently still in wrapping from refurbishment), Quaife diff, amongst many other one off additions, all MOTs by Eastbourne Mercedes, and to inc, an amazing much admired E55 AMG orientated number plate. Only reason for sale is, I am just not useing the car, think it has done 1.2k miles in last 3 years, and most of that are primarily trips to MB of medway. Will come with a few spares, inc, 1 full set of Brand new brake discs, for the Brabus brake set up. Recent MOT by EB MB, and Service by MB of MW, a very fast car, In fantastic condition, albeit the usual front end stone chips are there, but they could be sorted if buyer choose to. Thinking £16K OVNO. Will furbish photos as car is currently, and the full spec if interest is shown, but will definitely post some when detailer has completed their work in March, and probably list on Ebay. A few of the guys still here know my car.
I am not in this site too often these days, but will try to pop in, to see if any interest is shown.

Hi Ricky, thanks for that. If you could post the pics and spec that would be most appreciated.

My CLS55 is up for sale 👀

I've been been watching AMGmeisters' videos for a while now, seems very knowledgeable and I've learnt quite a bit from watching! Definately worth taking the time to review👍

I owned a Lexus LS previously, and loved all the options as standard (and the room) but found the car a bit soulless, something you admire but do not fall in love with, hence my interest in an AMG !
Apologies if I've missed something, but what's wrong with an S class, if you've previously owned a soulless LS ?

if you loved the luxury and quality of the LS, the S, which it copies, is a more soulful creature.

While an AMG E class is a very sporty big saloon, not a luxury limo like the LS.

(I could ask what you need it for, but we'll leave that for another time)

Currently there is a silver W211 E63 Japanese import up for grabs,

As its an import, I'm not sure if the emissions are known to dvla and whether you would be affected in ulez zones?

For Japanese imports, if they are 2006 or newer petrols then they are good for ULEZ, any petrol from 06 is assumed to meet the emissions standard. It's earlier models where the UK market cars are compliant, but it's hard to prove a JDM import is, where you can lose out. However an E63, being 06 onwards, should be fine.

My concern with imports was always the COMAND system - being unable to use the nav is fine, but being limited to Radio 2 would be a bit annoying (the only UK station within the Japanese frequency bands), and ripping out the whole unit in favour of an aftermarket one I was concerned might leave me unable to control the dash display (setting clock etc). But could perhaps be overcome.

Generally speaking there are a lot of very good condition older cars in Japan, especially with old Mercs and rust, I think there's a definite likely benefit.

Should be plenty of ntg1 units about in the breakers, I don't think it should detract from a sale 🙂

I did however discover I was able to connect up a reverse camera using one of the AV ports on the rear of the factory tv tuner. Only downside, its not auto switch, meaning the channel has to be manually selected. 🤔20220201_134146.jpg20220201_134200.jpg20220207_135144.jpg

Nicee, any chance you could share the camera you brought? Would like to give this a go too.

The camera is cheap as chips from ebay, I got the discrete one which should install flush within the silver trim and won't stick out. The camera is rotatable 360 and swivels within its seat. The kit comes with wiring and even the mini hole saw too. Will install over the weekend and post some photos up. I did the same install on my hemi as as shown in the photo below.20220211_115406.jpg20220211_115225.jpg20220211_120244.jpg20220211_120833.jpg 👍

I'm not sure if were allowed to put a link but please delete. If you type in 360 degree reverse camera, it should populate on ebay.

For test purposes, I only had time to power up from a jump battery. I don't think I'll be using the reverse light power though, as I want my camera to power up on acc ignition. There is a fuse box right next to the TV tuner, so will find an acc source to jump from, touchwood 👍

I'm also looking into a plug and play obd port video in motion module for the passengers.

It's an old unit but the sound quality is second to none, fibre optic quality 😁

Absolute agree.

Having driven my old W211 E55K, as well as a MY13 LS460 and W221 S500L (neither were mine) and my current W222 S500, the W211 is miles ahead of the LS460 and the W221 is a way ahead of the W211, and the W222 is quite an improvement over the W221.

The LS felt about 10 years behind the W221 and on the test drive, 1980s Mini Systems kept calling me asking for their switchgear back.

Made some progress today in uninstalling the trim, every so careful. To remove the plastic trim, it's held in place with 2 torx screw on the outside and two 8mm nuts on the inside. To access the internal nuts, the trim has to be removed. I must say the trim is of high quality compared to other cars that I've worked on.

I also noticed the rear tailgate has been coated with yellow wax, possibly from factory?20220212_131432.jpg20220212_132702.jpg20220212_133109.jpg20220212_133506.jpg20220212_133533.jpg20220212_133548.jpg20220212_133548.jpg20220212_134239.jpg

Got the camera in. The trim wasn't 100% flat, it's the design of it but still mounts in well🙂20220212_142646.jpg20220212_142728.jpg20220212_144701.jpg20220212_144738.jpg20220212_144802.jpg20220212_145158.jpg

Test fit went well. There is already a mini hole on the tailgate courtesy of mb, so no drilling into the metalwork to channel the cabling through which is a bonus 🙂 20220212_150542.jpg20220212_150606.jpg

Please to announce, I now have a reverse camera. The camera is plumbed in via the factory TV tuner, which has the capacity to receive 2 video & audio inputs, marked as AV1 and AV2.

The camera will make way for easier parking, mainly needed in the garage.

Happy days 🙂
