**firstly i'd like to apologise if this is posted in wrong section of the forum**
Im new to mercedes and i have just purchased a w203 c200 kompressor 51 plate
i have a realy strange noise which seems like its coming from behind the centre console by radio?
i can only describe it as a clicking/ticking/whirring type noise (very hard to explain)
the noise is present when accelerating and gets louder the faster you travel.
It also is more louder once you slow louder once slowing down.
noise cannot be heard if you rev it in neutral
noise gets quieter after 40-50mph
makes no difference if fans are on or off (eliminates fan clicking noise?)
the clutch does seem pretty high but its not slipping dont know if this could be an issue and it seems to have got progressively worse since i had a new alternator fitted after the previous was whining away whilst driving.
its currently in the garage and they are having no joy locating the issue - at present they are suggesting gear box issues -car has only done 120k ?
they have said they have checked that the footbrake cable is not rubbing on the prop and it is not.
