Hi,

I'am totally new to the world of MB so please bear with me. I recently bought a 1997 E200 with 173k miles on it and it has a sparse service history , this doesn't bother me too much as the body and electrics are good and the engine I can work on .

Recently i have noticed a problem when starting from cold the car will stall under acceleration if driven straight off . However if left to idle for a minute she will pull away with no issue. I have cleaned the throttle body with no change , so i was wondering what else needs to be checked eg is there a cold start injector or cold idle valve that needs attention.

Also i need to run additional cables under the carpet and would like to know how to remove the passenger door foot trim without damaging it.

thanks in advance

brendan

The door foot trims on the front are just cliped on and rear have a small screw under the seat and clips .

For the very front side-foot trims remove the screw in the centre of each panel then pull off, the long panels just lever upwards.

The stalling could be the MAF sensor dying.

Is there an easy way to test a MAF sensor without having another to swap it wiith?

I was wondering if the MAF could be causing slightly uneven running in my 2000 Honda Accord when the engine is cold. It is perfect when it has warmed.

Read on the other forum that if you unplug the MAF and the fault goes then it's probably the MAF.

thanks a million !!!

Hi all,

Agghh I should have remembered this problem from my Volvo 240 days , as I had a MAF related issue on a 240 as well with similar symptoms .

When I disconnected the maf electrical cable this morning after starting the car the engine stopped hunting and revs increased.

I took it out for a drive and there was no stuttering or stalling so the problem is a faulty MAF ( seems common enough problem) .

The revs dropped back after the engine warmed up and I have reconnected the MAF cable.

So I'am off to get myself a MAF.

thanks

brendan

all fixed

hi all

just to let you know the replacement MAF arrived this afternoon and once installed the engine fired up with no hunting/stalling and drives as smooth as it should be.

here's the ebay link I bought from ( very rapid delivery, bought Tuesday from UK and arrives in Ireland today and only cost £34 delivered )

http://stores.ebay.co.uk/rockcar99

The dealer wanted 564euro's without fitting .

regards

Brendan

Well, I was talking about the one on ebay. Is 564 euros expensive?
Silly stealer. Tut Tut...

from mercedes it is about £250. from bosch it is about £180.
Did you check with your dealer first?

No, just enqiering. Wondering what you get and where made from on ebay.
That's all. I knew it was around the 130 mark usually, if you get just the sensor. Just curious here.

ebay item number

hi all,

here's the item number from ebay -> 190254781424 . With the shop been in business since 2003 and 1600 units sold with only 3 negative feedback recorded I felt comfortable dealing with him.

Oliver the new one had all the same markings as the original one when i checked and I can have a look tomorrow to be sure and let you know.

GSF wanted 330 euros for a Bosch one, at this rate even if the MAF burns out in 6 months I can afford to replace it on a regular basis as I have a years warranty with this one.

Hope this helps someone else and I will keep you posted as to any issue that I may have with it.

regards

Brendan

What's the part number on your OEM one that you replaced ?

Unbranded MAFs are BAD NEWS!

I always caution forum members against buying unbranded MAF's on Ebay since there are many cheap counterfeit units made in China on the market. These either don't last long or rapidly go out of calibration. At £34 delivered its definitely too cheap to be the genuine article. You may be OK but----------------?????

definitely cannot be the genuine article. it must have bosch on it with the the corrsponding number or MB number on it.
