Hi All MB lovers!

After moving on my car and now looking to increase seat count with R63. If anyone has one or knows of one that may potentially be for sale, I'd be keen to discuss.:)

They rarely come up for sale, but I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you. A great big high revving N/A V8 shouldn’t really work in a great big heavy car, but they do, and they do so wonderfully. Good luck with the search 👍🏻

Welcome, and good luck with your search. I believe only seven of the R63 were sold in the UK, but you never know...

Wasn’t there something like 7 made for the UK? I would imagine there’s none or very few in Ireland so you’d have to travel.

I’ve seen one or two for sale over the years, one had quite high mileage and was tatty though sadly. Another was up for C.£20k last year IIRC.

I found it tough going finding a well looked after GL, so many of these sorts of cars have had quite a hard life I found. I reckon if you really want an R63 you could be in for a compromise (either condition/colour/spec etc or price!)

Good luck and be great to see any you find

The last one I saw for sale looked OK but the price being asked was something like £35k!

Do you need the extra seats over and above an ML63 AMG? They're much more plentiful.

Good luck with finding an R63, they are the rarest AMG anywhere. What about a GL63?

Thanks everyone!

I need 6 seats and R-Class fits perfectly into the overall brief. Happy to wait for the right one.

There aren't many of them. I understand there was about 12 registered in UK, 2 in Australia. All in Japan that I have seen appear to be LHD. But then it means there is less people for me to chase to secure one:cool:

According to howmanyleft there were only six taxed in the UK last year, so as Will said if you do find one for sale it will be pretty much 'take it or leave it' in terms of colour/spec/mileage/condition/etc. as you'll probably not get another chance.

I'd be happy with any. According to my research most were either silver or black with black leather. One that I've seen online had tan leather.

They were pretty well specd from factory but then I'm after the shape/seat configuration/engine more than anything.

Condition is not a concern, I look after my cars and will bring it up to good state if poorly. Obviously if it's mint the price will reflect as much.

I've only ever seen 3 for sale in the UK, although I saw the same one for sale twice if I remember right. They were all being well-used so mileage was fairly high for their age at that time.

I think the majority of UK cars were 2006/7 registered, ie early M156 engines, and most were probably registered by MBUK themselves. I remember there being several at one of the launch events (at MIRA in Nuneaton).

Finding one at all will be a challenge as said, but I hope you won't need much boot space with 6 up? A 7 seater will give you more flexibilty for luggage, but that's probably academic!

Luggage space shouldn't be an issue. We tend to travel light but if needs must I can always get a roofbox

Perhaps you might consider an R500 with the 5.5 engine? Not as quick, but not slow, and less rare than the 63.

I may consider R500L should a nice one come along but there weren't that many more of them

The 0-60 in 5 seconds sounds good, but the 14mpg not so much, with handling is more AMG SUV / people carrier than luxury express.

Make sure your spouse is on board about driving a car that's 7'2" wide and 17' long (2168mm and 5157mm) - mine used to whinge about driving my S500L, which is a comparable size, in multistorey car parks and for parking in city centres.

Good luck with the search but expect it to take years, rather than weeks to track an R63 down

Might get lucky though. Most probably went into the Carriage trade but you could well find one that's been tucked away with one family as a station / airport wagon,.

Certainly worth having a word with folks in the trade to try and find it via the MB main dealer or specialist Independent network.

Just out of interest I've had a look to see how many are for sale in Germany. I could only find one  In the land of Mercedes Benz I think tht makes them rare.

It's no small task for sure. A good trade contact can certainly help. Anyone that can be recommended?

The usual suspects come to mind: the mainstream dealer network, and then the servicing specialists that feature on this board, such as Ollie at PCS. Even if people don't know a vehicle themselves, "people know people who..."
