Hi Guys,

Im a new member from NW London. I have joined as I've been a Mercedes fan and have previously owned a couple of c class diesels.

I am currently on the market looking to purchase ideally an 2013-2014 E63 Amg saloon or 2011-2012 c63 saloon. No idea if I have posted this is the right section but would love to get some advice from anyone who might own either of the two.

Anything in particular I need to look out for?
common problems?
Which engine is more reliable. The 6.2 NA or the 5.5 TT?

Any help or advice would be very much appreciated.

thanks, Adz

My best advice is to get a pre-purchase inspection done by a MB specialist local to you or the car. They are generally very good. They eat tyres and brakes so budget for them because they are a few quid. Timing chains are expensive on both cars and some do suffer. Pull away should be smooth and if its not the double clutch is failing.
History is vital. They will be on the DSB (digital service book) so make sure its complete.

Thanks soo much for the advice. Funnily enough I was searching online looking for a specialist to maintain it and the name that kept appearing was Prestige car service and Olly and look at my luck, you reply
Legend, thanks soo much for the advice. Will defo be using you for maintenance once I get on

Adz, if your preference is for a C63 join the AMG UK Group on FB. There are generally a few for sale on there that are well known for being good examples. As Ollie has stated above get the car you like inspected and if the owner doesn’t agree walk away as there could be some large bills awaiting you.

Generally the C63’s are fairly bullet proof engine wise but they do need looking after and proper maintenance, not just an oil change and a wash occasionally so look for receipts and a printed copy of the digital service record. A look at the tyres always helps for me when buying a used car. These cars need top quality rubber so if the tyres don’t match across the axles as a minimum, or are ditch finders also consider walking away unless everything else adds up. You just can’t run an AMG on a shoestring I’m afraid.

Best of luck with the search and welcome to the forums :)

Thanks for the solid advice and welcome. Will definitely keep these points in mind, would never have thought of these things myself so glad I asked, and will also look into the facebook group.
Much appreciated for your help
