Some of its questionable mind :) and some of the advice Scumbag gives Mr Saunders is often physically impossible or would take a well greased up contortionist:eek:

 read the posts regarding snobbishness on the site, it makes one wonder, ten posts of welcome and questions within eight hours of joining, then twenty five hours (and counting) since the model is posted .............. nothing, nada, nowt, nil, :).

was it the Model of car or the fact that I am getting it for free that set the noses high lol .

only joking I am used to being the poor relation lol

Welcome
The A class is a good car much appreciated by its owners, but admired less by owners of bigger mercs.
Same can be said of B class & C-coupe (both of which I have)
There are plenty of A owners on here though, so they should be able to give you pointers. I would recommend the facelift W169(not W168), mainly for looks(much improved imho), but likely to have better quality & more kit on it too with a better residual value.
The classic is the base model, so won't have much kit/options on- if you are new to Merc ownership you might be surprised at how little kit is standard on base models in comparison to other marques. If you are able, would recommend an elegance or avantgarde.
You need to post more info re your needs/questions in order to receive replies.
Blue is nice :)

:D I got my 94 c180 for £350 and I have never hid the fact I got it cheap. I have never been treated with disrespect because of the meagre sum I paid for the car? I know people who own A class and most don't have any problems with their cars... But if you search the forum you will find some horror stories... By the way, you will also find people on this forum very, very helpful. But a few are ar$es regarding "correct" grammar and spelling, as far as I'm concerned, Fcuk em! There are far worse things in this world than people's bad spelling and crap. As for snobbery, you'll get that anywhere you go. I don't know the reasons for other A class owners have not replied to your post, but there were rumours of the forum/club being up for sale. This has been proven to be nonsense. May be they haven't posted because of the uncertainty of the forum, who knows. But anyway, welcome and I hope you stick around! Rock on!

Thanks Piper Alpha from 3 Para, sorry I have not replied sooner but have been ill, I have not got the car as yet, but looking forward to the day I do, my diseasoil french wreck is about shot to pieces, my last post was tongue in cheek, and meant in fun not to be taken seriously,, I gleaned a lot of info from another site regarding another make of vehicle (toyota emina people carrier) years ago, unfortunatly all too late, as the engine blew from my ignorance, therefore I am trying to check out the do's and more importantly the do nots before I take delivery.

Sorry to hear that! Hope it was nothing serious? I know what you posted was in jest. I was quite honest with my assesment of a minority. The majority are fantastic people, and will move heaven and earth to help... The other day I notice another w202 C-class at the side of the road with the hazards on. I did what most other people would do. I turned around and tried to find who it belonged to... I noticed an elderly gentleman walking down the road. So I drove up to him and asked was the C-Class his. He replied yes, I asked what was the problem, He said that it just kept satlling and was off to the garage (4 miles away) to get soemone out to collect it... I offered to have a look, he declined and said he would get the garage to have a look. I told him I had a similar problem with my one sometime back and it was Oil in the throttle body and took a few minuets to sort. If it wasn't that I would take him the 4 miles to the garage to get it collected. Anyway, after having a quick look, sure enough the TB was full of oil. I had some old cloths and a can of Carb cleaner in the boot. Gave it a clean. He started the car revved it a couple of times let the revs fall and it was just fine... Problem solved. I must have saved him a small fortune. He offered me some money, I declined and told him if he felt strongly about giving money, to donate £10 to the RBL. My point is that if you can't help out another Merc owner who is less in the know that you, what's the point????

still have not got the car yet.
shame, but you will enjoy it when it arrives though!

Just seen this thread... a belated welcome Brian.

With the pending arrival of Junior Blondebier, wifey wanted a smaller car and we bought a W168 A class. It's the A160 cdi Classic SE. It's a great little car when I get to drive it. (I commute so don't really need a car)

The A160 as opposed the the A170 means it's in the cheaper road tax bracket - £35 per year. We get around 600 miles out of a tank of diesel. I think the official figures claim a combined 62MPG. Which is pretty good too.
The A170 cdi is a little bit more beefy and has 95 BHP as opposed to 75BHP in the A160. It won't be keeping up with the SLR drivers on here, but it's fast enough for our needs.

I did think with it being a classic it would limit the spec a little, but it has Power steering, ABS, traction control, air conditioning, electric front windows, electric mirrors, CD player, remote central locking... What more would you like in a small car...? Wifey likes it which was the main thing for me. :p

I think the other models like Elegance and Avantgarde have leather seats, chrome trim, alloy wheels and such things... I wasn't really bothered about any of that.

Good luck in your search!
