mercedes clk 230 and 430
Hi there,
I am a newbie to this forum. Have just joined as I have 2 merc clk my wife has a 230 komp Ive just bought a clk 430 year 2000.
So I think I might be using the forum a lot more.
I am having some problems with it and wonder if anyone can shed any light. the dashboard is lit up like a christmas tree !!!

The abs,bas,esp,brake warning light come on with the ignition,and stay on as soon as you start the car and dont go out it also says esp defective visit workshop on the dash display. when driven speedo is not working,and gearbox is in one gear suspect third as does 30mph at just below 3000rpm limp home mode I think. tip shift dosnt function.
Can a faulty speedo sensor cause all this (no speed signal) ?
If so where is it located and how can I test it. Any help ideas welcome. I am hopeing it may be something simple,or worst case the esp bs unit and ecu. I also thought I might be able to swop some parts off my other clk if they are the same for testing. Also hood has an issue as well when you release the latch the windows go down but then thats it, the red hood switch also is not illuminated and when you push it down at the front of the switch there is no spring restistance,also when unlatched the hood dosnt move up that first few inches under spring tension. could ther be a spring off or micro switch issue,can they be tested and where are they located ? Or could it just be the hood switch is it fused ?

I would greatfully recive any advice I am located in the oldham area and willing to pay beer tokens for any help from anyone local who may be able to take a look at the car,but dont want to drive it to far in limp mode.
i am also happy to do some testing myself nut need some idot proof instruction to follow!

I dont know if this helps the number on my esp/abs unit is A0034319612 if you have one for sale I may need it !

Out of curiosity what is an esp and what does it do?
 
Hello and welcome......I assume the 430 was cheap.....dash board lights can be expensive to put out.

You need to get the codes read.

Faulty rear wheel speed sensor (or associated wiring/connectors) can cause at least some of these symptoms.

Electronic
Stability
Program.

Helps to stabilize the car prior to it going into a spin.
 
Hi Guys thanks for your responses,
Yes the car i cant complain about the price just I have incorpaorted to repalce the espa abs module id required into the price i paid for the car.
I wouls like to bring it back to its former glory as it has only had one owner and 94,000 miles.

IS there anyone local to me Oldham Manchester who can code read it other than an mb garage ?

willing to do some work mysel and resaonably capable with good instructions. I was thinging off charging the battery first even though it is showing 12volts on meter. then i was going to remove the wheel and check all the wiring for wheel speed sensors etc i had a bme 5 deries once replace the abs unit no different found wires had rubbed through on fron wheel speed sensor under the wheela arch mudguard.
Would like to check all the simple stuff 1st before condeming the abs esp unit. Is there an online manual I can download.

the speedo isnt working is this driven form a gearbox speedo drive or abs wheel speed sensor if so which one,is it the o/s/r ? this may be a good starting point as the speedo is inop, no speed signal gearbox dosnt know what to do,or abs unit etc, just a theory. if I can get the speedo working it might come back to life.

Any thoughts anybody ?

will let people know how its gos and what fixes it so it will be useful to other members

Hi and welcome to the forum

Do a search on brake light switch,this covers some of the problems you describe
also wheel speed sensor, this should get you moving in the right direction

Yaw / Latereral Acceleration Sensor... ESP.

I had the same problem with my C class and changed the sensor in the boot and problem solved and no need to re program or star as when fitted message went away and worked perfectly. Although confirmed problem to start with on " Star "

Welcome to the forum. let me know when you want to buy another car;)
 
As you have discovered, there are a lot of things to go wrong. You could just throw money at the problem by changing things at random, or you could cut your losses by getting it put on a STAR. That's MB's own computer diagnostic system, and it will pinpoint the faulty component(s). Your local MB dealership will have one, or you could take it to a specialist MB independent workshop which has made the investment.

Let us know where you're based and someone will be able to recommend a good indi.
 
Hi Thanks for the replys,I am located in Oldham near manchester,is there a merc specialist nearby hwo has the code reader ?

how does the brake light switch effect the esp etc ?

the sppedo not workign could this be a cause ?

Is there a workshop manual avaialble on line anywhere.
