    Hi All

Newbie here with an SL55 AMG - I'm loving the machine - its grunt, poise, comfort and gorgeous looks!!!! :bannana:

Inevitably I am considering two things so am happy to receive any pearls of wisdom:

    1) Can it be lowered electronically either at MB or via an indie with the full monty diagnostic equipment? I think I would like it an inch lower all round.

    2) Will probably go down the pulley / remap route in a couple of months. Am reasonably adept with a spanner so would envisage (and happy to be corrected) fitting the pulley myself and then paying for a remap. Any recommendations on who to use for a map? I see proper pulleys are available online for £300.

At the same time as looking into these I am open to your wisdom on the merits of preventative maintenance such as :

    a) Changing the gearbox oil?

    b) Changing the ABC Fluid?

    c) Checking the condition of the batteries and changing if reqd?

    d) Any preventative maintenance on the roof mechanism/hydraulics?

My car has FMBSH but will be due a service shortly. I may go MB or Indie - I will probably decide when I have a better idea about the above!

    Thanks all!!!

    Welcome to the forum.

Yes, or you could buy a lowering module.

    2) Will probably go down the pulley / remap route in a couple of months. There are a number of suppliers for remaps - probably best to select a local specialist from here.

    a) Changing the gearbox oil?

My inde recommends every 40,000 miles. I had mine done when I bought it 3 years ago as a precaution although what came out was clean so probably been done before or driven by a nun.

    c) Checking the condition of the batteries and changing if reqd?

Can be tested / measured although you will probably start getting 'Convenience features disabled' or similar if you have issues.

My car has FMBSH but will be due a service shortly. I may go MB or Indie - I will probably decide when I have a better idea about the above!

I would, and do, go inde. Usually a lot better customer service and usually use genuine parts with a much lower hourly rate.

What year is your SL55? Mine is 2007 and couldnt be done on STAR, later software is the reasoning, but I'd read reports of pre-2006 cars being adjustable on STAR.

I went for the Wilheim module to lower and would recommend the specific module route as being best anyway.

Enjoy the SL, I know I do ;)

Its an '03 - I was hoping it can be done on STAR.....

the car is currently dirty!! I am so fussy with my cars I wont be posting any pics til its had my full attention for 2 days cleaning, claying, waxing etc!!!

BTW I'm in East Sussex, so if anyone can point me at a good indie nearby that would be great.....

Second recommendation for PCS. Use them for all the work on my SL55.

Welcome, Ive recently bought a 2003 and can't stop grinning every time I get into it. Like you I'm thinking about a few mods but Ive just put on a new set of tyres and replaced the discs and pads all round. JRH30's post has really got me itching to do something about improving the sound and a remap is definitely on the cards at some point!

    Have fun!

Stay with MB just for the service, it'll hopefully keep your mobilio intact - and more importantly corrosion warranty.

Thanks guys for all the useful tips so far :thumb:

I doubt I'm gonna be able to make the day out on the 17th May so I'm still open to recommendations for sourcing a remap.........:)

I have put a call into my local MB Dealership re the STAR and lowering. Am waiting a call back.............

I have no idea what mobilio is????!!!

I love the sound this thing makes already! I gave it some beans down a B road the other day - nothing in sight - and as I came round the corner, two cyclists had stopped to see what was coming because they obviously heard it in the distance and gave massive grins and thumbs as I cruised past.:D

Lot of confusion around this. Firstly your car must be serviced at MB Dealer at the agreed intervals otherwise cover expires. Your car being 2003 is actually under MobiloLife. Changes were made to the scheme for cars sold after 2004 and 2008. Think that best cover is for cars after 2008. Basically very similar to RAC/AA roadside assistance. Do some google searches.

    OK thanks.

I plan on visiting MB with it shortly and having a chat about those elements and discussing the history it has to date.

Does your car drone at all with the resonator/cat delete?

No drone no real difference inside until you put your foot down :thumb:

If Mobilo is just a breakdown service - why not use an inde and save the cash - out of which pay some for a (good) third party one?

PM if you'd prefer but what does it cost?

I'm keen if theres no drone anywhere in the rev range......:thumb:

That's the beauty of these cars - accessible improvements in performance/noise/handling for sensible money!

If theres a corrosion warranty condition to be complied with too that might make it sensible. I'll check these with MB when I'm there.

I have AA cover thrown in with my bank account anyway so Mobilo (great marketing MB! :)) is useless to me.
