Hi all, I made my long awaited purchase a few weekss ago and bought an 03 plate E320 CDI Avantegarde. It’s in tealight blue with blue leather interior. Its done 118k miles with full MB SH from the same garage and its a 1 owner. I bought it for £6800 from a trader garage when it was on for £7400 - what do u think. Did I get a good deal? It also has reverse parking sensors and the usual Avantgarde kit.

I've got a some questions I’m hoping I can get answered here:

1 - Should I continue to get the car serviced from a MB dealership garage so to continue the service record. What are the additional benefits which will outweigh the costs?

2 - I've found the door mirrors do not fold when I lock the car. I've been into the menu and the option in the Convenience sub-menu for 'Fold Mirrors on Door Lock' (or something like that) is set to ON but they still do not fold on lock. Also the menu does not show any errors so is it something I've missed? The mirrors fold fine with the manual switch.

3 - The car has options for using a mobile phone on the steering wheel and dashboard but the phone cradle is not in the armrest. Its seems to be screwed to the side-plastic-wall next to the gear stick. Is this a standard setting for the mobile phone to be in other than in the armrest or is this an added extra?

4- If I find a suitable phone to use in the cradle will I be able to use its full features with the controls on the dash-board and steering wheel..?

Looks like you have an after market phone kit which makes it impossible to say anything about it without some additional info. If it was an OEM kit retrofitted, then of course it would be easier to comment. Any photos?

Hi and welcome, sounds like you got a good deal, nice one! I can only advise on the first question - have a read into the mercedes long term recovery etc called Mobilo?? I think, anyway maybe worth keeping the services with MB and then any other work done at an indi. Cheers

I will get some pics asap.

Mobilo sounds good as I've searched for it on Google and as long as you get your MB serviced from a dealership every 2 years they provide a break-down service (similar to AA 5 star apparantly) and do parts/labour cover too.

Can anyone offer any advise on the folding mirros problemo..?

IMHO this is an entirely personal choice. Given the age and mileage of your car you've passed the point where a full MB service history will add significantly to the value of the car when you come to sell it. If you decide to go for an independent, make sure it is someone who knows the W211 and has the STAR diagnostic system.

The early W211s did not have the auto folding mirror option. I don't know enough about the menu system to know whether it is possible that the menu has been upgraded even if the option is not fitted.

The buttons on the steering wheel are present on all models whether or not they are pre-wired for hands free operation. If your car is pre-wired, there should be wiring in the central locker even if the cradle is missing.

To get the mirrors to fold in when the car is locked , try folding thenm in with the button on the door , then fold themk back out . This should reset the fold in when locked function . This needs to be done if the battery was disconnected
