Next C63 will be a 4 pot hybrid

I’ll be locking the M156 away then :thumb:

Haha yes me too! And apologies if this is a duplicate thread, I couldn't see another one but mods feel free to move/close.

Hopefully “Fake News” If not I’ve still got a proper V8 in the garage :D

Seems like a good way to reduce sales of the C63 to near zero (who the hell will pay ~£70k for a 4 pot). I wonder if this is a feeler to check the reaction from the market and then say "it's ok guys, we'll keep the V8 for now (but not for long)" and then everyone rushes out to buy one!

You say that but the price for a four pot is creeping up already.
The Mercedes A45 S is on sale now with a starting price of £52,145 and that’s just the starting price

It's a sad , yet inevitable way motoring for the future is going. Just be thankful its not all electric .
Not totally surprised and I'd expect MB's competitors to go the same way, so looking to BMW and Audi for a new V8 won't help.

Now more than ever, if you have never had a V8 AMG, just do it. They'll all be gone one day.
I wonder who will supply the V8 for Aston Martin in future ? Is it the end for V10's and V12's in Lambos and Ferrari's?
So many questions:D

I think we should all embrace and look forward to the cars of the future.

Stop hanging on to the past and get excited for what’s to come.
I’m guessing some here still play music via Vinyl and CD’s.

Move with the times, you may just enjoy it. :)

I won't be buying another V8 - the one I have now will be my last as it is wasted and I know we have to move forward...

So I'm all for the change but this news still fills me with sadness despite all that!

Over a decade ago I was shocked to see a highly strung 4 pot 2.0 turbo in place of a V8 in a racing Audi R8 .

Weight and balance is everything with handling and remember a 60kg difference just between similar cc early 90's Vauxhall engines, 8v Vs 16v turbo iirc .

I can't see a small-engined hybrid car weighing less than a conventional large engined one... the weight of the batteries will probably make-up for the difference.

But yes, in essence highly-strung small engines have a huge advantage in terms of weight and balance. Which is why the SL600 was a nice tourer but never a great sports car..

And only 32BHP different (pre-CAT 16v)...

I had no idea the weight difference was that much between those two engines.

You can put those batteries much lower to drastically improve the centre of gravity.

I guess when battery tech improves they will become lighter.

Is this downsizing actually improving efficiency and reducing CO2 output anywhere other than the homologation emission testing?
Recent comments on Fiat's TwinAir and tales Porsche's four cylinder in the Cayman being thirstier when pressed than the previous six cylinder suggest otherwise.
The problem (as I see it) is that boosted engines inevitably have to run rich under load to suppress detonation - bang goes the fuel efficiency. Despite Porsche claiming all sorts of trickery to avoid that.

Vinyl still gives the purest sound Ant. Might be old tech but its still the best.
Streaming loses some of the quality

maybe, but it’s been and gone. I’ll ask my 14 year old daughter to start buying all her fav tunes on 7” Vinyl, she’ll enjoy having them sat in her bag on the school bus every day. Very retro. :D
