I bought an X Trail in 2003 and first saw that prototype shortly after. Back then it was supposed to go on sale firstly in California in 2007.

According to this story, it is now 2015 before it goes on sale. I would guess then that things have not been plain sailing in the development of this technology. At this rate we may never see it.
