hi alex , yeah drive about 50 miles on motorway each for work and no joy just the red face when lorries over take me going up hill.

Its going to the specialist today i quoted earlier so will let you know the outcome. cheers for your input though

This is not an ESP fault though, I assume the ESP warning is still displayed?

Lack of power will be something else as has been discussed on this thread earlier.
My advice has been in relation to the ESP error message.

To all other interested readers, the ESP fault code set when the steering wheel is not properly aligned is in relation to steering anlge sensor zero offset.

yeah alex i understand that. its in for both faults.

The steering was straightened out and tracking re-aligned. Also tried the battery disconnect/ turning steering wheel to reset but neither worked. So maybe STAR machine will be able to reset the code or the sensor is in fact done.

I now know i have 2 individual faults and it was coincidence they appeared at same time approx.

So garage has diagnosed a lateral sensor for the esp (after reseting codes on STAR) and worn bearings in the turbo causing the low boost.

any ideas if a faulty/worn turbo would cause the car to go into limp mode?

It can do. Worn turbo bearings on MB's are not a common sight though.

Yeah he said that there was a fair amount of play within the turbo and could here a grinding noise with the boost pipe off if that makes sense.

hi again, just incase anyone is searching through this i required a recon turbo unit at £685 plus fitting.

The esp fault is a lateral sensor at £200+ vat from merc only which i have just left for now.

All in i was £1100 ish for turbo...... ouch at least car drives great now!

garage's computer has flagged up ....................steering wheel sensor so said they need to do some further investigation......

Good job they didn't change the steering anlge sensor then!
Hard to imagine how it can be the steering angle sensor one minute, then the latt accel sensor the next - but hey, glad you got it fixed!
