Hi,

I just received the call from the MB dealer that now cannot order the Diamond white due to Tsunami in Japan any validation on this matter??

If so what color would look best for E cabriolet,
I prefer white but now only left with calcite white which is cheapest.

Thanks in advance

Xirillic pigment used in some whites is now unobtainable as the only factory in the world that makes it is owned by Merck and was wiped out in the tsunami and earthquake in Japan.

Manufacturers are exploring alternatives but in some colours there is simply no economic replacement

Hope that helps

I didn't see the point in paying so much more for diamond white I'd seen two E-Coupes next to each other one diamond and one calcite but so opted for calcite.. mainly because of the pearlescent nature of diamond white, colour matching that would be very difficult imo should anything happen to the car..

Plus, when polished and glazed well I think calcite white is really quite shiny!

It's not just certain paints that are unavailable with no target future availability date. Audio 20 is now unavailable on many models and COMAND is only available as the single disk version, not the 6-disk changer.

My advice (and I'm not in any way affiliated with MB) is that if you want to get a car with a particular spec ordered then make up your mind and get it ordered sooner rather than later, and be prepared to change the spec if another option becomes unavailable.

Calcite white looks good till it goes next to another true white car or when it snows.

Then it shows up as looking dirty/creamy white.

I have just been told this morning about Comand which I am not happy about. I have asked if the single disc version is cheaper and am awaiting a response.

Fortunately all of the other options that I chose are ok, including the colour Designo Mauritius Blue.

Seems to me that we are going through the early eighty's colours all over again.

We have had silver, and then black, now we are on white (remember all those RS cars and XR3's) so next we should be moving on to RED and then maybe the dark anthracites of the late 80's & early 90s.

Why not go RED, White will be so last year so very quickly.

No offence to all those with white cars.

Are your garages token garages or can you actually reverse in and get yourself out of the car? Actually able to open the car door??

I'm just interested!!

wow, is there really only one factory in the world that makes metallic pigment good enough for car paint?

Can reverse in and open the door fully plus get around the whole car (E350) to detail, nothing kept in the middle garage and the farthest garage has standard opening but is a lot bigger inside - but can quite happily store the GL (all doors & boot open) and still have a load of other stuff in there too as well as being able to get around the car to detail it :)

Your garage's are like the Tardis !!!!!!

I walked round with the little one on my normal get him to sleep route in the pram and spotted these two

1 was a E200 CGi and a E200 Cdi

they looked cream?? don't know if the picture shows it but they were not white !

We spotted this one when they were first out and I think this is the 'exspensive white; which looked great.

I'm not sure on resale and how long the white is 'cool' will last but a lot more new cars look good in white nowadays

I'd like to add to this, PSA has also dropped quite a few paint colours from it's lines.

I've been in the UK lately, and I've seen quite a few of the earlier "white is coming back" cars, an they're looking a bit poor now, two or three years in.

I think the cream look is Calcite white,
Diamond white will have metallic in the color.

To take care of white color is tough, I coat the car with glass coating from car care center, like a film on top of the car paint, help to make color keep "white" as it is.

I visited a showroom today and was also told that diamond white (my preference over calcite) is indefinately unavailable due to supply issues.

They had a calcite coloured C next to a diamond colured S and to be honest I couldnt tell the difference unless your were barely inches away from the cars.

Maybe that was down to the showroom lighting.

Just be aware that neither of these whites are as bright as say an Audi or BMW.

The diamond white in some lights looks almost a cream/beige colour and so you may not like it anyway.
