No excuse, a speeding ticket after 15 years.

Well it had to happen sometime and during my AMG ownership I came close a couple of times, but this ticket has really annoyed me.
I am one of the thousands of drivers who have been caught out by this damn cash camera. It's not a safety camera, the last serious accident was years ago when some unfortunate fool who was too lazy to walk a hundred yards to a pelican crossing thought he could cross a dual carriagway with central reservation and a 50mph limit and got himself killed.
The council correctly reduced the limit to 40mph where it stayed for years until the cycling zealots got themselves elected to the local council and decided to slow the traffic down everywhere. They reduced traffic on a dual carriagway to 30mph which also boasts 3 pelican crossings in the space of 400 yards!

The road I have just been "flashed" on is in a series of roads over around 1.5miles that sees the speed limit change from 50>30>40>30 and I hold my hands up, I lost concentration and let my speed drift to 36mph in a 30mph section. I'm not the only one it seems. I was following the car in front and I guess he got himself a fine as well.

After 15 years of having a clean licence, I'm not offered a speed awareness course, just £100 fine and 3 penalty points for 6mph over the limit. No excuse, its above the limit, but its a stupid limit decided upon by a council that despises motorists and makes no secret of it. Dorset Police must be coining it in on this one camera alone.
So I'll most likely be paying extra for my insurance at renewal for possibly the next 5 years it has to be declared.
Can you tell I'm annoyed!:wallbash:

For all that insurance companies love to bump up the price for any reason, I don't know anyone that had their policy increased for the first SP30.
I did last year! I checked the prices without the SP30 and with and the latter was more expensive 😡

Very surprising to not be offered a course for a 6mph breach?

You’re just 1mph over the ACPO guidelines for prosecution?

Damn, sorry to hear this. There but for the grace of god ....

BTW I don't think the local police receive the money, it goes direct to the Treasury and gets lost in the general pot

Speed cameras/vans and not forgetting those sneaky bastards on motorbikes with handheld cameras. Are purely money making machines. Simple's. 🙄🤪

On what grounds?... he's guilty and just admitted that on a public forum! :D pay the find, move on, lesson learned.
Not wanting to tempt fate...but my last speeding points were on 1989....41 in a 30 on a brand new GSX600F (ugliest bike I ever owned).....so thats 36 years with not a single speeding fine. I was not offered a speed awareness course either.....but that might be because they were not introduced until 1996!

The original Teapot wasn't a bad looking old hector for the time; Suzuki's refresh in the late 90s however should only be viewed through a welding mask. In fact, make it two just in case one falls off. 😵‍💫

Lol.....mine was like this...same paint. Don't know what I was thinking really....I guess it was because the dealer could not sell it and it was offered as a price I could not refuse. Thinking back it was 1988 on an E plate...not 1989.....was my first brand new bike. Owned it less that a year before buying a 1989 Yamaha FZR1000EXUP....much better and proper fast when delimited.

Teapot. .

.....proper bike....owned this over 5 years.

Banned for 24 in a 20

Got my first speeding fine in 22 years back in March on my way to Donington Park for a track day. Was a fair cop but was equally disappointed to get the 3 points plus fine when I was hoping to attend my first ever speed awareness course

Fourth speeding conviction in three-years… Maybe a ban would actually ‘land’ the message, everything else clearly failed.

Yes but you've got to put speeding into context. With a speed camera you are done, end off. At least with a cop, depending what mood he's in, might show a bit of commons sense. To think you could actually get banned. For doing a few mph, over the limit. And all the consequences that might entail, is ridiculous. By the way I'm not condoning, really excessive speeding, in any way. 🙂👍

I hope it stays this way but I've never had a point on my licence, more a case of being expremelly lucky in my youth and then luck up antil about the age of 50 after that I stick to the speed limits but it is so hard to keep up with the varying limits espcially over shorter distances etc, I've hd a licence since the age of 17 and driven always had a car from the age of 18 so about 46 years of driving - I've never had a parking ticket but always owrry about unwittingly parking wrongly or falling foul of these herdenus variable time bus lanes and yell box junctions hwere they are set up to make money - i drive a lot less and often its always loca,

I'm giving you full credit for sticking your hands up, no ifs, no buts - as others have said, imo, you should have been offered a driving awareness thingy

These days you also have to lookout for hypocritial moron in cars or on motorbikes that have a dashcam/etc and drive awfully but then report others for making a genuine mistake - the worst of the lot is the morons that cycle who imo cause many near misses or even accidents then just ride off without a care in the world but more than eager to report a driver who they feel has wronged them

You don't get offered a course until you've replied to the NIP. The cutoff for a SAC in Dorset is 42 in a 30 zone:

I've not been driving for long but I'm lucky I live in Wiltshire, no fixed cameras here; Aside from the occasional exception people are generally sensible including myself. If you're doing 50 in a built up area that's dangerous but doing 36 in a 30 should be considered a minor infraction, 1 point at most and NO fine. Considering that some of these limits are completely arbitrary and well under what they should be, it feels as if they're setup to make money.

For all that insurance companies love to bump up the price for any reason, I don't know anyone that had their policy increased for the first SP30.

The insurance on my SL went up when Mrs BTB (named driver) got an SP30 (the only one she's ever had). I changed company.

I think there are still a few who require you to disclose SACs attended? AFAIK they can weight your premium on anything they consider might affect your risk profile.
