It that it concerns me but interested to know why MB have ditched them?

Modern lights perform now better than the old fashioned fog lamps. No need to have a separate lamp with specific lens. It simplifies design and probably makes it cheaper

You have a button for it, and the rear fogs go on and the front headlights go brighter on a lower dipped beam. You can park in front of a wall at night, and give it a go and see what happens to double check.

Agree with the advancements in technology but I've always thought a set of foglamps at the bottom of the bumper look good

You'll also notice that there is no headlamp washer - I was sceptical but over the last 2 winters it wasn't missed !

It's an MOT failure to not have washer jets for xenon lights how have modern cars got around that?.

I agree, but I think this is only part of the story.

I had front fog lights on all my cars in recent years, including the W203 (facelift), and found them very useful. They came as standard on my W203 Classic SE.

When I bought the W204 (facelift), it only had the DRL bars at the front but no fog lights.

Having looked into it, most cars came like that. There was sn option to replace the front DRL bars with dual round lights consisting of one round DRL and one fog light, but it seems that very few people specified this option, so fog lights on a W204 facelift remain rare.

This is in spite of the fact the most W204s - mine included - do not actually have the optional ILS / HID pack. So all we have is traditional H7 Halogens and no fog lights.

It seems to me that someone at MB decided to kill off front fog lights some 10 years ago by removing it from the standard kit list, perhpas on the premise that people will buy more ILS / HID / LED etc.

Must be the difference between xenon's and Halogens / LED's

Oh i just assumed it had xenon's every new car seems to have them especially Merc, I don't think I've seen a new Merc with halogen (not that I've took much notice).

It could be that the newer cars have led lamps rather than xenon?

Not sure, but it's something I've noticed too

Don't forget not that long ago one of us (not me!) posted that they didn't have headlamp wash on their particular car as instead of wash nozzles there were little blanking plates below the headlamps.

It was only when a kind and understanding forum member pointed out that the washers nozzles came out on stalks from behind those 'blanking plates' that the OP was enlightened

Is this one of those ?

I thought that's how all washer jets were for headlamps my understanding was there all underneath a blanking plate?

Some still wait to jump out on you at traffic lights with a bucket of muddy water and a squeegee.

The only blanking plate is the tow hook. The 2015 C Class onward doesn't have headlamp wash, nor does the 2017 E Class

No, there are many cars out there where the jets for headlamp wash are on permanent view . Some of those are fixed and some of them extend on stalks.
