Has anybody else had this trouble, I cant get quotes from tesco, direct line, asda and a few other ‘popular’ insurance companies due to no tracker.

Btw it’s the CLK 200k that im trying to insure, thanks

Could be because of that SLR that got recovered recently ;). If you do a search for Tracker you'll find some threads regarding insurance companies that don't require them.

Had the same problem with CLK320. Apparently very desirable car. Direct Line didn't want to know without Tracker and not the cheapest option one but retrieve or something like that.

Im with "morethan" for my insurance and they dont seem to be bothered about tracker.Could be down to the area you live?

Never been asked that on any quotes I've had for my car. I was with NU, now with Sainsburys Bank; got quotes from loads of others.

Only renewed with Sainsburys (underwritten by First Alternative) in March, so it isn't an issue with them. So certainly try Sainsburys, FA and esure as they are all part of the same group, but with different underwriting parameters.

It could be that the insurance companies that you are getting quotes from i.e. Tesco/Direct line have now struck a deal/signed up with Tracker and get commission from it for getting customers to subscribe just like they do with Beak Down Cover.

Direct Line insisted on Tracker before they would insure mine (or at least cover it for theft). They said it was down to the value of the car but Flash may well have a point.

I had the same problem when trying to insure my SLK, I'd fill in all the details on-line and the last question was 'Fitted with Tracker'
or suchlike. Why not ask this question first and stop me wasting my time? Anyway in the end I went with Admiral, not only were they one of the cheapest, they said that having a tracker was not required, in addition, they do a multicar insurance deal which gave a further reduction.

Also worth trying the MBO club, they were second cheapest, but didn't do multi-car.

Customers I speak to have this problem all the time, its purely down to the individual insurer. Some go off make/model of car, some go off the vehicle value and insist you have a tracker on cars that fall into a certain criteria. Try confused.com it really is handy and then once you've got the quote, rather than buy online, call the cheapest insurer in the list on confused and you'll usually get a couple of quid more off, saves a hell of a lot of time, money and effort :)

thanks for the replies/advise! I dont think my age is helping the situation i'll have to give confused.com a try

Suppossed thats one good news atleast for growing older:D :D atleast you insurance will be cheaper especially with Saga:D

Have you tried elephant? I used them to insure the SL and they didn't require a tracker, although I did have one for a few years.

Apart from the really annoying advert, confused is actually a very good web service.

no its not.

i put my details thru.... elephant wasnt listed. filled elephant in manually = £200 cheaper than the cheapest confused quote.

I'm another insured by MoreThan - and they didn't insist on a tracker for my CLK either.

Nearly half the cost of my previous insurers to :bannana:

Its definitely a "CARTEL" between Tracker and some Insurance companies... For example, Direct Lines' excuse is that it depends on the value of the car if Tracker is needed BUT brand new Ford Mondeos/top spec Focus cost more or at at least the same price/value of face lift MB W208 CLKs now and I am sure that they would not impose terms/conditions that Ford Mondoe/Focus customers have tracker fitted on to their cars for insurance purposes...

It might be, but I've had no luck with it twice.
On the first occaision it just stopped and said that "there was an unexpected problem" about five pages into the information gathering. Also said that the info was saved and that they would contact me when their issue was resolved. They never did.
I've just done it again and it did it again after about 15 minutes of inputing. It may be because I scrolled back to check a previous screen when it asked me for details all of my wife's driving convictions! (she has none), but I had mistakenly (don't know how) stated that she had two!. If that is the case then I think the format is a bit precious. I certainly will not be trying it again!!

Well it's worked on a number of occasions for family and friends - worth a go in my opinion for the small amount of time it takes.
