No Insurance w/out Tracker!?

I`ve ad the same problem when i switched over from a c-class 180K to a clk 220cdi insurance company required a tracker otherwise they wont insure me for theft or attempted theft yet never been asked that before for any other vehicles

Its definitely a "CARTEL" between Tracker and some Insurance companies... For example, Direct Lines' excuse is that it depends on the value of the car if Tracker is needed BUT brand new Ford Mondeos/top spec Focus cost more or at at least the same price/value of face lift MB W208 CLKs now and I am sure that they would not impose terms/conditions that Ford Mondoe/Focus customers have tracker fitted on to their cars for insurance purposes...
The name 'UK Insurance PLC' crops up for quite a few companies.
The online data entry seems to fall into two main categories.

So it's not so much a cartel as consolidation where there appear
to be a couple of main underlying insurers with different front
brands with a few smaller insurers round the periphery.

Direct line wanted a tracker on my wife's SLK230. We worked out that
it wasn't worth it. They didn't even ask for a tracker on my E240 which
technically lists higher.

I'm with some of the others on here - More Than gave a cracking quote (as they did for my Z4 too) and no requirement for Tracker.

Has anybody else had this trouble, I cant get quotes from tesco, direct line, asda and a few other ‘popular’ insurance companies due to no tracker.

Btw it’s the CLK 200k that im trying to insure, thanks

Had the same trouble . . . they just won't get my business then.

hi shaz

i got a clk 200 k (w208 model though) i got insured with tesco without a tracker (even though it would be cheaper with one fitted) and I was only 18 at the time...that was about a year ago. i am unsure as to why they cant insure you?!?!

yeah i had to get a tracker fitted to my W208 CLK230 as they would insure it otherwise!!!! got it all fitted now :) now i know exactly where my ride is all the time :P

Well it's worked on a number of occasions for family and friends - worth a go in my opinion for the small amount of time it takes.

i`ll 2nd Stats on this one, Ive come up trumps on both mine and my dads car with confused.com, also tried the unlisted ones seperately and confused came up with the cheapest.

My car - RAC Direct
Dads car - Its4me.co.uk

oh, and no tracker!

Likewise - i had to have a tracker fitted when i bought my W208 CLK back in March. Insurance co. insisted on it. Its a small price to pay and give a lot of peace of mind.

Question?

To all those with Tracker (or similar). Do your insurance companies insist on maintaining the system as long as the vehicle is insured, what I mean is if you keep the same insurance/car for five years, by which time the car is not as desirable, are you still tied to Tracker?

One company quoted and stated I would need Tracker even if the car was ten years old (Norwich Union).

Note: So far I have always been able to find a quote that matches the best "with Tracker" quote.

Mike
