No, the way it works is if you have no license and an ounce of weed in the car they give you an escort home, but if your tax disk is not exactly positioned, then you will get slung down the police station stairs and your car will be crushed.

Apparently trade users have to manually register on MID, or carry the certificate if they don't want grief.

Don't they do a check over the radio when the pull people over?

Or have I been watching too many episodes of Roadwars?

The recognition cameras on the cars or tripods check every number that they see, if they see a plate that is not on the data base, they then alert the operator who can then decide to intervene.

And even if you have every thing you should have in order to be on the road, if the computer says ' No ", you may well be walking home.

This mainly applies to insurance and driving licences unless the officers can see faults like dangerous tyres etc.

I did exactly the same thing, but I got a new MOT before i presented my documents. They said that it was the time when stopped that counted but appear to have let me off with a verbal caution as it was three months ago and i have heard no more. Tough luck!

Obviously failing to produce has gone out of the window with the centralized data base

Not so.

Foreign licences are not on the DVLA database (but it may be that the driver is driving legally on one. Also, if your insurance is not on the database but the Cops allow you to continue without seizing your car (eg they accept you have insurance) then you are given a document producer then.

Sounds likely but they do have 6 months to deal with this summary (Magistrates Court only) offence.

Failing to produce MOT.

Since the law hasn't changed (has it?) I believe you can drive for a year and a day without possessing a licence so long as you are not disqualified or otherwise prohibited from obtaining one.

I would have thought that the days of the "producer" in it's present form are numbered and that both the driver and the car will hold a simple smart card with all the necessary onfo encoded.

But does everyone driving on the roads not need a licence to do so?

You asked about an appeal;

If you were en route to get the car tested when you were stopped, you have a defence in law and so would not have commited the offence - clearly this is not what happened in your case and the chances of an MOT station wanting to pervert the course of justice (imprisonable offence) to lie and save you £60 is pretty slim.
Hi Swiss Toni,
I am merely a bloke on t'Internet but please correct me if I'm wrong.

I believe your post is 'half' right but perhaps slightly misleading. I think...... If your MOT has expired you need to have an appointment at the MOT Test station. It is no defence to simply say I'm off to Acme Garage at John O'Groats to get my car MOT'd.

I think the author has been caught out and is letting off steam. (there but for the grace of Noddy, go I) I suppose we could ask how long would it have been before he realised the MOT had expired, if he had not been stopped?

I'm off to check our fleet of vehicles:eek:  ;)

Regards
John

The above is 100% correct, you do need to have a pre booked time at a testing station, and you do not use the car from the expiry date until the drive to the MOT station. Also that drive must take a reasonable route.

was pulled over for the way my car looked, saxo vtr (big stupid exhuast etc)

This surely is the best forum ever ... what response do you think we'd have got posting an equivalent message on a Saxo forum?!!

My vocabulary is not very good for those forums as I do not know all of the words used.

probably......MOT? whats that them mate!

They will be telling you that you TV licence is not valid to drive on the roads next, like the did to me when they told me to bring my licence round. They also said they would take my car away and crush it as it aint got insurance, don't matter to me, its not my car!:D

Oh, thats Max Power ain't it!

D'oh!

Just pay up mate. they really need the money.
Lucky you were not done for loud music(depends who determines what is loud)

its easy, miss out every 3rd work and add liberally the phrases "Like" and "y'know" at an intervals.

You may also dispense with things like , ? ! and so on. AND INDEED YOU DON'T NEED lOWER CasE.

And on no account must you quote, or infer, you have factual evidence. It must all be from a mate, or a mate of a mate, who does not own a car or has any mechanical, legal or indeed any experince in life whatsoever.

He is able to read a "News" Paper such as the daily sport, or VIZ.

He will have tried Sniffpetrol but found it made him vomit. He would not know how to use a PC and has no idea about the interent. His TV schedule consists of GMTV, Jeremy Kyle, Trisha, richard and Judy, and re-runs of Springer.

When you ask him who he voted for, he would say "The one with the biggest ***s"

Eats "Chuddy", wears a Hoody up in places they wont let you, and wears a t-shirt when its raining!

Know what I mean?

Sorry, should have made it clearer.

Yes you do need to have a pre-booked appointment with an MOT Station.

If, for example, I bought a car without MOT but made an appointment with an approved garage near my home for later that day, on my journey to the garage, directly from the place of purchase I would technically be commmitting the offence of Using a car on a road without a valid certificate being in force but have the valid defence of a pre-booked appointment (so would be found not guilty at Magistrates if it ever got to that stage).

However, if I arrived at the garage too late and they were closed, my journey from there home would be illegal and I would have no defence.

I then book another appointment for the following day, my journey from home to garage (by direct route) is still "Using without valid MOT", but again I have a legal defence.

:)

"I" have not done the above, disclaimers, small print etc.
