There doesn't appear to be a pre filter in the fuel system of my S124 300td.

Is this normal, or have I missed it?

SHould I fit one?

Ta

it should have one - if it doesnt have i'd definatly fit one, otherwise you're relying purely on the in tank strainer before the main filter which cant be good.

Hi

Yes it should have a prefilter, it is normally located below the inlet manifold down near the left hand engine mount, it is a little in-line throw away filter, some are straight through and some have a 90deg bend on one side.

Not hard to fit one if its not in place. Best done from underneath.

Hope this helps

sorry for the very late comments .

you can clearly see when you remove the air filter cover on the 12 valve 6 cyclinder diesels. Its has a 90 degree bend one one side . so when you are changing or cleaning the air filter you can change or inspect the in line filter . its a piece of cake once from the top once the air filter cover is removed.

Its better late than never.
