Why do all the oldies have to work longer until we get a pension when there are so many yougsters on the dole?

Let me retire and everyone move along the perch and take on a trainee.

I'm sure my state pension is the same as they pay out on dole and housing benefit so it's a neutral cost.

Actually, single person JSA 16 - 24 is £56.80pw,
JSA 25+ £71.70pw
and pension credit single person £145.40pw.
Housing benefit would be the same I believe

It's cheaper to keep people on the dole than give them pensions, or doubtless they would be lowering the pension age not raising it.

Checked last week and I get a state pension at 66, so that's nice...68 is the current expectation for the ill educated youth of today

Mrs P was 60 in June and has worked since she was 16.
No gap year, Uni, or for that matter any children.

She has to work until she is 63 years 8 months and 27 days old.

Just checked Housing Benefit and in my neck of the woods ofr a single person it's £114 per week. Dole = £71

I'd retire if they gave me £185 a week.

IMO you should be able to retire on full state pension after 40-45 years of employment

Not sure about housing benefit but I believe the £114pw is the maximum contribution towards your rent, if the rent is above that you have to find the balance yourself.
Mortgage 'interest only' support is at the same level I think.
Obviously if you own there is no housing benefit

Mr P began work in 1973
Mrs P in 1970

You currently only need 30 years of contributions for full State pension
