Noise from offside front wheel...

Everytime i drive over a uneven/bumpy road i seem to get this rather annoying clanking sounds from my offside front wheel....It could well be under the arch and not the wheel....i was wondering if it was common for the shock absorbers to fail on these vehicles.....

creaking noise

I have a similar problem. The difference being the noise I get is intermittent and is more of a creaking noise and it is from both the front and rear.

Hello All,
Sorry to be late, but can I resurrect this thread to find a solution to the same, yet mysterious knocking/banging metal sounds I get from the offside rear quarter?
Not consistently when going over bumps, sometimes on the flat, sometimes going round corners, accelerating/decelerating, and most noticable at lower speeds.
I can't identify a regular situation to make the noise, however, it is frequent and annoying. Have looked under car, garage not found anything dangling. Nothing hiding under the seats.
Other thoughts would be something like the petrol tank is not 100% secure?
CLK coupe 2000.
