Not sure if this is the correct place for this, but I have a noisy windscreen wiper, lots of rain its quiet, when dry its quiet but when fine rain it chatters across the screen. They are only 4 ot 5 months old and have been doing this from about a month old. They are genuine MB replacement wipers. As my son says, they are doin my ed in:wallbash:

What type are they? I got a cheap one piece affair on Ebay. Best and quietest I've ever had.

Yep....I have also been using the same for the past couple of years....cheap, perform very well ,last about a year, and far better value that the expensive ones.

mine are the same, Genuine Mercedes fitted by Ascot Mercedes and they are about 6 months old and noisy as hell.

Thoroughly clean the windscreen with Cif (formally called Jif) wipe off excess and rinse with plenty of water.
Wipe clean the edge of the blades that contacts the glass.

Cif is a household cleaner, corrosive and contains silica sand so keep off the paint work. I use this every time before I wash the car.
Just one possible explanation for your problem.

Had same problem...gave screen and wipers a thorough clean and that solved it!!

I usually clean the windscreen after washing the car as the waxes etc in the car wash solution can contaminate the windscreen.

Thanks for the advice, its an S class with two wipers, its only the drivers side. Annoying thing is, prior to them being replaced, the passenger side wiper made the noise:doh:

There are possibly 4 reasons for your problem;

Contamination of windscreen and or blade edge where it contacts the glass.
Incorrectly fitted blade/s
Worn blade/s
Wrong blade/s fitted.

Do try the Cif, you really will have a very clean windscreen afterwards.

I find that MB blades and MB screenwash are silent for 12 months, but last longer - I think the set I have on are two years old and have started to make a noise in light rain or screen wash.

Bought a new set this morning as it happens - even a rear. Parts bloke at the dealer said he hardly sells rear wipers at all!!

I have the same problem, the only way I have cured it is to use Autoglym Glass POLISH, not glass cleaner. It works a treat but it does have to be reapplied fairly often. I have had this problem since I bought the car new in Jan 06. MB even changed the windscreen for me to try and cure it.

Since I started using Autoglym FAST GLASS I don't get an squeaking problems with wipers highly recomended. it takes the wax of the glass which is most likely what is causing the problem its also recomended to wiped the rubber wipers with it too. 100% will fix it.

Try just twisting the wiper arm a tad, to change the pitch.
Done using an adjustable spanner with a cloth over the arm to stop marking it. Usually worked.........:)
