I have recently been 'trying' to upgrade my phone from a 3110 to a 6310i.
The 3110 works perfectly, full integration into Comand, but is only a 'single band' phone, and is a bit 'old hat'.
My everyday phone is a 6310i. I have purchased a phone holder (plus mount) and a 'supposedly' compatible PSE (phone support electronics) module from e-bay (Germany).
The PSE module part number is A230 820 42 26. My dealer tells me this is for an SL, and is OK for the 6310i. When I install everything, the message 'phone not connected' appears on the Comand screen. I have purchased another holder (the first one was second hand from e-bay) and still the same - so I am certain that the PSE module is the problem.
My dealer says that A211 820 61 85 is what I need (£162+VAT), but threads on the forum suggest A203 820 5185 or A203 820 2585 would be best.
This has already cost me a fortune. Can anybody suggest which PSE I should buy before I waste even more money?

PS does anyone want to buy an MB phone holder for a 6310i?

Yours desperately

Hi Paul

Al I can say is thatI have tried the 203 820 2585 and the 203 820 5185 with my 6310i and they work fine.

however, I do sometimes get phone not connected which is a bit irritating. I put it down to the holder being in the armrest of my 203 . I dont have these problems when its in the ML on the normal vertical phone console. Could be a connection thing.

Also, have you tried restarting comand from the diagnostic menu after you change the PSE?

Have you tried a different cradle ? Would have thought that if the PSE was faulty, you would get no telephone recognised at all. Could be the pin connections on the cradle ?

Just to add to the confusion - the part number on my PSE is A 203 820 25 85, and works fine.

just had a thought ...

You need to make sure your 6310i has the latest software - some old software models can be incompatable with the comand PSE - so my delaer tells me , which I've heard elsewhere and take it to be true.

A 203 820 25 85 is now obsolete

A 203 820 51 85 is the current PSE for a 6310i

I originally thought that it must be a cradle fault. I purchased my 'first' cradle from e-bay, second-hand. I have subsequently purchased a new phone (to make sure I got the latest software), and a brand new cradle. Still exactly the same.

The phone says 'Not Charging' and 'Stop' as soon as I plug it in. This suggests to me that the wrong voltage is being supplied to the phone. The same message is on the phone when the D2B bus is unplugged - at this point in time the phone only has power / mic / wake up line connected.

The D2B bus obviously recognises that the PSE module is present (it is visible on the diagnostic menu) and comand simply says 'phone not connected'. Without the PSE module plugged in the comand says 'no phone'.
I have tried rebooting comand, and have checked all obvious connections etc, still no luck.

Could it be a phone software issue?

Help.......

So how confident are you that the comand is enable for phone use .... is it from Steve?

Could it be that simple ?

Mine came enabled for phone use from Steve NL, (although it does need programming further to activate "extended" phone mode - SMS etc.) - otherwise works fine.

As far as I know They just work with the phone kit whether soecifically coded to do so or not .. but I wil double check that. Extended features def need delaer activation.

It slooking like a phone software issue to me. but I cant remember the key sequence to reveal the version info on the nokia . If someon ecould help here I could compare my 6310i version with Pauls.

Sounds like an incompatible interface/voltage issue if you get "not charging/not connected".

I would appreciate someone checking their software against this....

PS have ordered A203 820 51 85

I have COMAND and the full factory fitted (previously 6210, now upgraded to 6310i) phone kit. All I did was swap out the PSE to a A203 820 51 85. I then reinitialised the COMAND (after entering the service menu, which anyone can do) and it worked straight away. No need for the stealership to reprog anything IF just upgrading.

The text on the ebay article suggests his complete kit will work with either a APS30 or Comand navigation system.

In a W209 CLK the PSE is centrally located between the spare wheel and the back seats.

The part being sold on e-bay is the cable from the PSE to the phone cradle and not the full kit. (the white one in the picture).

ps anyone got the part number of the phone aerial plug to fit the Hirschmann A208 820 43 89 rear wing mounted aerial on my CLK or is there a connector lead?

my 6310i software is V5.50 03-03-03

Yours is later so should work fine with the later PSE - the 5185

Hi can any one offer any advice on this relating to the 6310i
I am looking to fit a hands free system into a w210 e class without command .
I have a nokia car kit for the phone but dont like the holder so i purchased a mercedes holder thinking it may plug into the nokia kit but it didnt .
I have been quoted £1500 by my MB dealer to fit a proper kit which i thought was a bit steep so i was looking to try and do it myself but not to sure where to start and what i need to get
Any advice would be welcome
Thanks

1st Question : What Radio / Head Unit is fitted to the car ?

2nd Question : What functionality do you want over and above what the standard Nokia CARK-91 does.

I agree that the MB holder is far sleeker than the Nokia

If anyone is brave enough , I wonder if the MB phone holder plug can be cut off and the Nokia plug attached . My reasoning is that its just a phone holder and so is the Nokia & it is "probably" just the plugs that differ - the actual wiring connections being the same?

A wiring diagram of both would be useful though... anyone able to help with that.??
