Nokia E61i problem

I have a Nokia E61i smartphone which was supplied by orange and which I had unlocked. For 6 months it worked fantastically well and as you can see is in very good nick but....

I bought the phone on ebay and after 6m Orange barred the phone as the original owner had a replacement or upgrade. So now I have a beautiful camera/video/bluetooth/wireless/organising device which can't make phone calls on UK networks!!

Is there anything I can do with this phone?

They would only block the IMEI if it were reported stolen.

Suggest you contact your ebay seller.

Orange told me it was blocked because the original owner had had an upgrade:dk:

Not true, why would they block a perfectly good phone that someone has paid money for - unless of course it was by request because it was stolen (or lost and replaced by insurance).

Think you have probably hit the nail on the head, owner sells upgrade phone on e bay, pockets cash, then reports it stolen claims on insurance Orange issue new phone and block IMEI on first phone.

This could be a tricky one but presumably if you can prove you bought it legally and in good faith the operator might unbar the phone?

IIRC it doesn't work that way with cars. You buy a stolen car, in good faith and the police will impound it and you loose the lot. I think the same applies to any stolen property?

It was bought in good faith as BNIB which it was when it was delivered. So are we saying that this phone was someones upgrade and they sold it and then claimed against the insurance. That means the original seller has his original phone the money I paid and the insurance payout......

.....email to original seller being composed.

That depends? its not black and white, sometimes the magistrate will rule that the new owner should keep the car it depends totally on the circumstances and the original owner could lose out, depends on a variety of things such as if finance is involved. What happens if you buy a car legit only to find out it has a stolen engine in it? Rulings of this nature are complex and not clear cut.

That is one possible scenario but lets hope its not the case, good luck:thumb:

Woohoo!! I've just rung Orange to moan and a very nice man told me that if I put a brand new Orange Sim in it he'd register it for me. I had an Orange sim in a draw so while I was on the phone I put in the new sim and gave Orange the IMEI and Sim number. 5 minutes later the very nice man unblocked my E61i and 5 minutes later again he sent me texted instructions and a new phone number and a £1 credit to check it all worked OK! Anyone fancy a very good condition E61i locked to Orange?? :)
