Hi all
I am planning to change the rear axle fluid of my W212 E63 which does not have a LSD. The user manual says SAE 75W-85 (Fuchs) for open differential and 75W-140 (Castrol) for cars with LSD. My local MB dealer thinks otherwise. They advise using 75W-140. Am I misinterpreting the manual? Or have MB changed their view on the right grade fluid?
Would be grateful to hear from members about the right grade to use - especially the ones who have changed their non-LSD AMG rear axle fluids.
Thanks.

My diffs both use the 75w/85 Fuchs , I must admit I thought cars with LSD’s used a different oil .
Try the Opie oils website with your car details

Consult the bible :

Opie says 75w-140 thinking that my car has LSD which isn’t the case.

Consult the bible :

Not sure how to use this. There is a few options for gear oil including both 75-85 and 75-140. The website says check user manual for the right grade. My interpretation of the user manual is 75-85 but this contradicts the mb dealer parts dept.

This page cross-references car model and differential type :

Thanks for the BEVO link. I think I have found the answer in the chart below. My car is a 212.077 with standard differential (without a differential lock). Unless I read this incorrectly, the right grade is 75W-85. This agrees with the owner's manual. Both this chart and the owner's manual contradict with the main dealer parts dept. which said 75W-140 was the right grade despite I mentioned my car was a non-LDS.
Is the lesson here "do not blindly take the main dealer advice, always check the manual and MB data sheets"? I think the majority of owners would just go with whatever main dealer says.Screen Shot 2022-04-22 at 22.50.40.png
