Noob looking for a R129

Sorry, wasn't sure chap.

As Bill mentions above, convertibles are somewhat seasonal; people don't tend to want to buy them in the depths of winter when you can't take the roof down etc etc. The good weather comes, buyers dream of the wind in their hair and want to buy into a piece of that action. The sellers take the opportunity to cash in on the demand.

I would hold out for an R129. CLK's are nice but not remotely as desirable and I think R129 prices will continue to creep up.

I saw that one. Looks decent & very very well priced. Best to go and have a look at a few first to give you an idea/yardstick.

I spent about 18 months and looked at a dozen before buying mine. It is not perfect but only needs a couple of bits. It was the best I saw by some margin. It meant I had to pay a bit more but it was worth it.

If you're local to Potters Bar way you're more than welcome to pop by for coffee, a chat & a look.

I think I've spotted your SL about a few times, very pretty car :thumb:

Thanks. You wouldn't have spotted it much in the last year as she hasn't been out much! She turned into a hermit this year. I took it down to PCS last year for MOT and to relieve me of circa £2k. Then got silly busy with work. Just realised that just over a year has passed since she went to PCS and the MOT has expired! Ooops.....best get it booked in then. She likes it in the garage. It is getting much nice in there these sitting nicely under the 4200 ;)

Are you fairly local to Potters Bar then horatio?

Just had a look at where PCS is located

If i were you, I'd be looking for any old SL60, and be getting rid of the 500......the 60 is much more desirable :p

True, but why? It must be rarity, and attracting people who want one as an investment; as rockits' experience reflects, it's not that much better as a car to drive.

I suppose it's a bit like the difference between a Rolex and a (Rolex) Tudor; they both tell the time perfectly well (as does a £20 Casio, but I digress...), but one costs a lot more than the other.

Because that way, he can sell the SL500 to me! :D
