Hi
As we gets lots of posts asking about "Northern" AMG Meetings I'm planning one for Sunday 27 May at the National Coal Mining Museum for England, Overton, Wakefield, WF4 4RH. I'm trying to organise this via the AMG Private Lounge, UK Forum, if you have access I'd ask that you could please respond there. If you don't have access to the AMG PL and would like to attend please let me know via this forum and I'll add you to the list of attendees.
The Museum is easily reached from the M1 Junctions 38, 39 and 40 and will be accessible for a large number of people and hopefully provide and interesting and unusual venue for an AMG meeting. There is a good sized car park and I've arranged with the Museum Manager for a dedicated section where our cars to be parked together. The Museum do not charge for entry however they do ask that group visits make a voluntary donation for having a dedicated parking area provided. A link to the museum website is below

As an ex Coal Mining Engineer I can recommend this venue and for those who have never experienced it the underground tour is well worth the 1 hour 20 minutes it takes. If you wish to do the underground tour I'd recommend you book a time slot as soon as the museum opens at 10.00am. If there is sufficient interest in the underground tour this can be pre booked for groups of up to 19 at a cost of £2 per person.
There is a cafe which serves breakfasts from 9.00 am to 11am and lunch from 11.30 onwards. The cafe manager has asked if we could provide approximate numbers of how many would like breakfast to allow for a dedicated seating area and a faster service.

As we will not be far away from the Peak District for those who can make it I would suggest a drive out in the afternoon via Holmfirth , Holme Moss A6024 (stop at the car park at the top for photos and take in the view , if it's not raining!) and either Woodhead Pass A628 or the Snake Pass A57 towards Sheffield. This will be confirmed nearer the date.
The suggested timetable would be as follows :
Arrive from 9.00 onwards
Breakfast available 9.00 to 11.00
Museum opens 10.00
AMG drive out , depart museum at 14.00 TBC
Subject to a commitment from 20 AMG Private Lounge Members to attend I hope to obtain some AMG goodies to distribute on the day.
I'm aware that whatever date we choose some people who would like to attend will not be able to do so. If the event is considered a success by those who do make it I'd be happy to arrange another one later in the year.
If you wish to attend I'd be great full if you could provide the following information which I will consolidate as we progress:
Name
Car (model)
Number requiring breakfast
Number who would like to do a group underground tour
Looking forward to hearing from you and hopefully meeting up on the 27 May.
Regards
Andy
