Norton Internet Security

Hi,

Anyone had any experience of this. I installed it a couple of weeks ago and the performance (internet) of my PC connected to the same DSL line seems significant slower. In particular web pages have a long pause before anything shows, and then the page appears more or less instantly. In addition a number of pages don't display - saying "page not found" but when the refresh button is pressed it displays normally.

I have disabled my ZoneAlarm firewall and am using all the features of Norton. Prior to this I just had Norton Antivirus and Zonealarm - which on the face of it - seemed to work much better.

Any ideas. I am on Windows XP Professional, 3.01 Gb well specced machine.

thanks

Is it fighting with the XP firewall?

I use NIS 2003 and haven't got any problems as you have mentioned. I have switched off the XP firewall though.

I have this disabled since I used ZoneLabs. I just checked and it is still disabled.

Need to keep trying...

thanks

Hi,
Two thing spring to mind.

1) Do you use windows update and, are all your windows updates installed?
(including SP2) and have you had the live update to get all the latest virus files down for NIS. If not you may be losing bandwidth while files are being downloaded in the background...
2) NIS does not protect you from spyware as far as I know. Try running microsofts spyware tool or adaware. spywareguard and spywarebaster work well I have found...

If you are using Internet Explorer I would suggest that you switch to Firefox and see if things improve. By nature Firefox is a little more secure as it does not execute ActiveX programs for you :)

Do you have the Parental Control enabled? With this on your machine has to plough through a vast list to find out if the URL you want to hit on is a site likely to corrupt your moral fibre and turn you into a depraved Evil-Doer.
