Not a good day - someone hit the back of my car!

Parked up at our new house this morning (being renovated before we move in) to take some photos of the front garden being dug up and heard an almighty bang! Thought "what was that" and then realised a car had hit my car from behind!

The other guy's insurance company (Same group as mine) have admitted liability, and will be providing a loan car tomorrow (sadly not a Merc, but an estate car of similar size).

They wanted to use their repairer, but I have insisted it is a Mercedes approved repair centre. MB Cambridge (Robinsons) have their repair centre in Norwich so that's where it is going.

Can anyone offer suggestions as things I need to look out for or approaches I need to take?

Also does anyone have any experience of Robinson's Accident Repair Centre?

I won't be claiming whiplash as I wasn't in the car at the time

Thanks

Only that on a very general note that as you are the 3rd party in this case, the insurer will bend over backwards and be very quick to respond to ensure you are not tempted to employe an expensive (to the insurer) accident management company.

Please also be aware that you are entitled to a refund of any reasonable expense you may have incurred as result of this incident, e.g. taxi, postage, phone calls etc (though this is not to say that you should actually go around claiming for every penny spent...).

No whiplash maybe, but surely there is stress related trauma to claim?

I note you were exposed to an "almight bang" perhaps some noise induced hearing loss?

Hope is is repaired OK for you

Can`t you detail it :D:D

Ok jokes aside it does not look very bad, likely just the rear bumper and light so wouldn`t worry much about which bodyshop

I thought about giving it a tickle with the rotary, but then realised I could feel the scratch with my nail so it wouldn't all polish out ;)

TBH I'm a bit embarassed as it needed a wash. Have to clean the wife's car tomorrow instead.

The edge of the tailgate is damaged, but I am most concerned about the damage to the rear wing - I guess that will end up being filled, and not best pleased about that.

Pardon? Can't quite hear you! Please speak up.

Twenty of my friends have all sworn they were sat in the back seat and they all have whiplash.

I also hope it is repaired to a high standard - I'm quite picky about things like that:)

Depending on the market value of your car, I wouldn't be at all surprised of your car was written off.

And I'll not mention how that water on your car isn't beading right...;)

Is that part at the light the damaged light itself or os the panel that has broken?Sorry but I can`t tell from the picture

I hope it's not written off - I suspect market value is around £6k, though to me it is worth more. I know the history of the car, and have recently had a £600 service (A service, plugs, ATF fluid, brake fluid, air filter), 4 new Michelin Pilot Sport 3 (£600 pounds worth), and four wheels refurbed (£400).

Would hate to lose this car now!

Yup absolutely correct!

Been following your white dog thread with interest and now I am in a similar situation:(

Mate, I really feel for you. I really do.

And thanks for checking in on my thread!

I don't know if it is possible for you, but try and get in touch with someone at your dealers to let them know your car will be going to the approved workshop.

I don't know if you would be lucky enough to get the support from someone at the dealers, like I have, but it can help alot to have someone on the inside fighting for you.

Just stress to the bodyshop that you need the car dealt with properly and that you won't accept a half-ar$ed job.

You may come across pushy to them, but it will save them and you alot of time later on.

I'll keep following this thread to see how you get on.

It's not always such a bad thing, your car being written off...;)

Looking at your photos, you need a new rear quarter, rear bumper, tail light plus associated brackets. I'd hazard a guess (main dealer prices) at £1500. Then you've got to paint; full back end sprayed, rear bumper, off side rear quarter, nearside rear quarter blown in (because of the new bumper). I'd hazard a guess at £2000.

So circa £3500 (not including cost of hire car) of repairs to a £6k car.

If they do write it off, buy it back off them and get it repaired yourself at about a third of the cost of insurance prices.

I hope for your sake the other driver doesn't bring an action against you for blocking the pavement by parking across it! ;)

It's a total PITA and you'll never be completely happy with the repair, no matter how good it turns out to be. It's the sort of hassle we could all do without, but whilst having your house renovated before moving in must be just what you didn't need. Good luck with everything.

F***ing specsavers  worse than merc dealers

Hope you don't use your specatacles for driving ;)
