Mrs D was out with a group of Moms from school last night, and as usual she was a driver. Parked the ML right outside the restaurant. She emerged from the restaurant just before midnight to find a flat tyre.

I had the children at home an so couldn't go to her rescue, so a very nice man from Mansfields went for me, courtesey of the Caravan Club Mayday scheme operated by Green Flag. There within 50 minutes, and on her way 25 minutes after that.

Big thumbs up to the chaps in the restaurant who let Mrs D and her passengers back in, and gave them complimentary drinks. Same again for the good service from Mayday, Green Flag and the Caravan Club.

Trip to local tyre lad first thing this morning, and it seems some oik slashed the OSR tyre - about 2.5 inch slice. I reckon there was probably another 7-9,000 miles of life left in them too, but being a 4x4 I'm going to replace all four tyres to stop an problems in the diff.

Before I went down there I checked prices online with the usual suspects, and he managed to cut me a better deal, and the tyres will be there on Monday morning. Bit of a result then.

So there are lots of good people out there, but sadly one or two oiks spoil it for everyone else.

One thing I am glad of though is that it Clive from Mansfields that went to Mrs D when she was vulnerable, and not Gavin from Autoglass, who seems over-keen on injecting his special resin!!

Split rubber on a Friday night, never a good situation. Sorry its my mind.

Some Johnny come lately does the nasty on the ML. As you say some really good folk out there tarnished the few. Perhaps some Cillit Bang injected by Gavin from Autoglass could help cleaan up the tarnished.

I was quite impressed with the 'Mayday' scheme a few years ago. I was forced (honest) to join the Caravan Club, as I was bringing my parents caravan back from the base of the Alps. It was the only way to get the special deal.

As it happened my screen cracked, and by the end of the holiday it would have been dicey to travel. My attempts with the local pug dealer failed miserably - booked it in for the day after I returned home.

Mayday found a specialist windscreen place in Grenoble, booked it in, and generally had me sorted very quickly. The windscreen place spoke no English, and my french was rubbish, but they go the message after seeing the English plates, and cracked windscreen.....

I have been with Mayday for 30 years or so & have used them frequently
(Old cars) & have always been totally satisfied.

I no longer have trailer/caravan but retain their service such that when/if I
breakdown, I can still have my car transported back home to a known
repairer rather than the Mobilo selected dealership.

Splitpin.

Sorry to hear of your problems. Glad yougot it sorted. You never see them do it, if only.

Crap experience. Good resolve.

Did you keep the other 3 tyres for future use ?

Can you give me some information on this Mayday service.
I will be getting a caravan next year, decided to get the new car first ML.
I do tow a horse trailer and as such would be interested to learn more.

It is part of Green Flag Recovery. I joined through The Caravan Club & obtained discounted rates.

I have just Recovery which costs 30 GBP annually.

The new ones are being fitted on Monday, I think I'll probably keep the three good old ones. Never know if I mind need one later.

It's much cheaper than standard breakdown cover with the big names, but you do have to be a Caravan Club member. So if you have no need to be a member, it probably equals out the savings.

The big benefit though is that there's no size limit on caravans being towed by a car that must be recovered - many breakdown schemes won't recover a twin axle caravan. They also tow you TO your holiday destination if you breakdown on the way and then the car to the repairer, and if not fixed by the end of your holiday they tow you home again too, all with caravan in-tow!!

We have Mobilo on both cars but took the plunge last year when I had an iffy MAF sensor and just a few days to fix in between two big towing trips. I didn't want to risk not having full recovery if I had a problem. Glad I did now though as Mobilo wouldn't have changed Mrs D's wheel without charging.

We have personal cover so we're both covered on any car we drive, with the above benefits, and all sorts of other cover, and I think it was about £70. They do promotions from time to time too.

vandalism, covered on insurance?

Probably not worth the risk of increased premiums. Bit of a pain, but at least with tyres it's an expense I'd have at some point - just not right now. Could have been glass or bodywork, so sort of lucky in an unlucky kind of way.

The ML was parked on the driveway from late Saturday morning as we couldn't drive it on the spacesaver - so the C got to have a run out.

Mrs D jumped in the ML on Monday to go and get her new Contis fitted, and calls me to say "Where have my mirrors gone?".

It seems someone stole our mirror glass from the driveway. We're both confident that the mirror glass was there on Friday night and Saturday morning. But not now!!

Hopefully a coincidence rather than something more sinister.

Parts will be at the dealer in the morning - I'm hoping that wiring and main body of the mirrors are undamaged - otherwise it will have been a very expensive weekend indeed!!

Anyone else ever had their mirror glass stolen (both sides!!)??

Replaced on Wednesday morning. Luckily no damage to mount, motor and case, nor electrical connectors, so got away with just new glass. Dealer did a deal on parts and fitted for free, which again was a good result.

That's a bit weird. I doubt that the local chapter of the Anti-4X4 brigade, if there were such a thing, would target you by carefully prising off your mirror glasses.

I'd say the two incidents were unrelated. Weird, but unrelated.
