Hi,
I have just had my slk to an independent Merc garage as my central locking has packed in.
They have had the car on star but it wont recognise the ecu.
So I'm back to square one.
Any thoughts?

Thanks

Jk

1. Disconnect, then reconnect the battery.

2. Check the condition of the OBDII connector and look for any corroded or bent pins.

3. Try an Indy from one of the forum sponsors.

Check fuses. My W210 wouldn't communicate to STAR as a blown fuse also stopped the ignition supply of 12v

Probably don't need star to tell you why central locking has packed up on a slk. Google slk pse pump

Thank you for the suggestions.
I have swapped the PSE pump and checked the fuses . That is why i have put my faith in star.
Even the garage seems a a loss as to what to try next.

Hi.
I have have my slk to another indipendent, same again.
It will not talk to star and this time total discharged the battery.
They had the car for 2 hours and we're unable to find the fault.
Any ideas ?

When you say you have swapped the PSE pump, was it with a new one or a second hand one?
Did you check the state of the impellor in either of them?

On any lengthy STAR session, the car should be hooked up to an external supply to keep the battery charged.

The pse pump was from a working slk.
The pse pump has power to it but does not do anything at all.
No noises.

It may well be that the impellor has shattered and seized the pump.
They are simple to disassemble and check.

What does "not talking to Star" mean? Does it mean that Star Diagnosis can't talk to anything on the car, or just the PSE pump?

I suspect you may have a problem with your EIS N73 electronic ignition system unit. It acts as a gateway between the CANBUS C engine compartment and CANBUS B interior networks [ inc central locking] . Because it connects to both ---its also the logical input/output connection for the diagnostic port. Either the EIS itself is faulty or its possible something on the CAN B is not waking up or causing inteference. Have you tried connecting Star with the PSE pump or any of the door locking modules disconnected in case they are pulling down the whole system-another possibility might be CAN wiring damage where the cables go thro the door hinge / pillar.
That's just my guess for what its worth but not knowing the precise age and model of your car difficult to tell whether that info is relevant. :dk:
