Notre Dame is on fire.

In 2006, we were evacuated from our offices with very short notice, due to fire in an adjacent building site.
We had a similar incident, where contractors repairing a flat roof set fire to an expansion joint. We evacuated the 4 storey building as two of the contractors gas tanks exploded, one arcing 200m across an adjacent dual carriageway.
The fire brigade turned up but couldn't access the site because of illegally parked cars and a locked security gate (key holder couldn't be found). The brigade crashed the gate and took out about 4 car's door mirrors trying to reach the blaze!
We were charged the cost of repair to the engine.
Contractors only had to repair the roof, again..
Driver's had to rely on their insurance..

We also appear to have overlooked the devastating fire at York Minster in 1984. Along with the Undercroft holding up its foundations and the never-ending repairs and renovations, many millions have been spent on its fabric.

Notre Dame will, as they say, rise from the ashes - albeit over many years to come.
