Notwen's CLK55 AMG

Used the CLK for a run out to collect some essentials this morning, it was a bit grubby when we got back so after Brian the Beagle had finished his inspection it had a clean.

I gave it a going over with my clay mit and then some Maguires polish to finish it off.

An outside picture of the new steering wheel, it must be the camera making it look grey, as the new (& genuine) gear shifter knob looks grey in the picture too.

Also had the C36 out of the garage for a clean, not that it's been anywhere, but I felt better for doing it.

Both look fantastic. The 55 looks to have been a great buy 👍🏻
 
That's like picking your favourite child...
I would hazard that once some normality returns the CLK will get more use, though the C36 is my favourite.
Still trying to persuade my wife to exchange her B class for an CLK - not won the battle as yet. We are only in Preston @Notwen, so if you just happened to be this way and offered her a ride... (ooerrr Missus!)

She said I can change my S204 but not had it long and the hit would probably be too much - plus not keen on the B class (manual)

I'm sure we will be Preston way as restrictions lift.
 
A little overdue for an update.
The CLK has had a little use over the last few months. I have also taken the opportunity to do some bits.
First up a few months ago, I treated it to a Renovo roof clean and seal.

It’s mostly stored in the garage with the C36, I have a soft stretchy cover when stored.

Last time out with the roof down, I noticed the boot separator was not holding fully in either the fully up or fully down position. One of the gas struts felt oily, so decided to replace both.

The OE number is A2096900059, though I found the Febi version (37274) was by the same OE supplier Stabilus, available for around £20 each.
With the roof paused, it was a sub 10 minute job

Fast forward to June:
While there was life left in the rear discs for the CLK (the fronts had been done not long before purchase…phew!), they had begun to score a little, which in fairness is common on cross drilled discs.
Autodoc came up trumps with a pair of Brembo discs for under £70 each, the bizarre thing is, they don’t come up on their search by model or VRM, I had sought out the Brembo number as the only rear late CLK55 330mm discs they had in stock were a billy no-name.
So, for reference the OE number is A1714230212 and the Brembo number is 09.9257.41. My other recent post about pad ears, appears (see what I did there) originally the later (4 pot rear caliper type) did not have ears, they superseded to ears type to reduce possible noise.

While AutoDoc are good for range and price, whey they can falter is delivery times from Germany (as to be expected), apparently their customer service is a bit Meh too, but not had any issues yet. As I was not in a rush, I ordered the parts last week. They left Germany quite quickly, but then must have been sat awaiting customs clearance.
Fast forward to Saturday morning, got stuck into cleaning the CLK ready for the run to Llandudno and my parts arrive. Apparently next door were having a Saturday delivery and the delivery driver decided to bring mine too. Soon got stuck and and swopped over.

One of the things that was mentioned before I bought the car, was the multi-contour seats were not working, it was not a deal breaker and a round-tuit was noted. Speaking to Red on Sunday, he mentioned the fuses and pump location.
This morning, I though I would have a look-see. Fuses ok, pipes under seat ok, stripped the panel out to get to the unit.

As it was not working, I thought there was no harm pulling it apart. I half expected a potted/sealed unit, but was all accessible and soon had the pump itself out.

Stripped it, cleaned the armature, back together and I now have working contour seats, result!
