.....is anyone planning to go and view a car or two?

Is anyone considering travelling to view a vehicle up for private sale? Is that allowed yet if you say it's visiting a "friend" and social distancing is followed?

I have one in mind I've been itching to see since lockdown was implemented.

I've just driven past a row of dealers in Southport and there seemed to some activity but they weren't open. Maybe preparing to.

I don't see a problem viewing a private sale if you are sensible. Take a hand sanitiser to use before driving back home.
A test drive could be tricky if they insist on driving, so you may need to show adequate insurance at the minimum.

I'd like to think both I and the vendor would/will be sensible as he's a forum member too :)

I don't think showrooms can open until Monday, but I bet the dealers will have all their need-to-shift stock on forecourts tomorrow. Let the pubic walk around and bump into each other. Do the follow ups next week. I'm sure they have ANPR on CCTV so can identify the prospects/marks.

One of my local BMW dealers are already open, at least to walk around the forecourt and enter the showroom to view cars.

Which reminds me, my new SLC Final Edition, at last got delivered on wednesday! :) (I got unlucky with my timing as I actually ordered it in early March, then when it was ready, lockdown started and MB Newcastle couldn't deliver it!)
Social distancing etc observed and car interior sanitised/cleaned by the driver before handing over to me. Very nice and a terrific car! All the extras possible on the SLC thrown at it! :)

I'll do a full write up about it in a dedicated thread later.

We were in a similar situation with a new caravan we ordered in February - lockdown actually started on the day I was due to transfer the balance, before collection! Caravan dealerships are also re-opening on June 1st so we're now picking it up on June 12th with everything done in advance using post/email/video/phone. It will actually be quite handy having the handover/demo videos to refer to again in future if necessary.

Put a deposit down on a car last week and hopefully picking it up at the end of next week , the garage seem to have been trading for some time over the lockdown.

As long as people are sensible , long shot i know , then there are no more risks involved than going to the supermarket , working ,or getting in a taxi -BUT ONLY IF WE FOLLOW THE EVER CHANGING GUIDELINES.

k

Are they opening tomrrow in Scotland too?

You should be OK as long as you stay clear of Barnard Castle! ;)
