Car
Mercedes C Class 250D (W205)
I have recently had an engine management light appear on my 2016 C class C250D. From the error codes (P22A0 and P229E) it appears this is a fault with the Bank 1 Sensor 2 Nox sensor.

I've booked this in for repair but been told that the part is likely to take several months to arrive. I have 3 months before MOT time but I don't have an alternative car to use. Is it likely to cause a problem with the DPF or similar if I keep driving for what will be about 1500 miles over the next couple of months until the part arrives, and if so other than not driving it is there anything I can do extra to look after it until repair. Most of journey's are about 8 miles to work on dual carriageways.

Cheers,

Dave.

I too have a the same problem. Engine management light on (2015 E Class E350D) took it to Mercedes who after a £130 Vehicle Health Check, confirmed its the NOX sensor. Told me it would have to be ordered from Germany and I have to pay for it before they order, £545!!!! Problem is that they are in short supply and can take months to arrive. I was considering buying one off a selling site and getting a local Mercedes specialist to fit it, but they refused as they could not provide a warranty. I even asked them to fit it and forget about the warranty but still refused. MOT in Sept so I'm hoping it will arrive by then.

I have been waiting since September for one!

I have been waiting just over 3 months for one

I’ve been waiting two months so far, after my GLC came up with the “start not possible in 500 miles” error. Some folk on the board seem to get theirs replaced very quickly, others seem to wait months. MB insist they can’t tell when my dealer might get one. Not ideal when the car is inoperable without it.

You are not able to drive it ? The Indy I use said mine was OK to drive and I still am with no obvious impediments :)

It's not just MB that have this problem. Both my 2020 Fiat Ducato's have the EML on because of failed Nox sensors, they are on back order from FIAT and nobody else stocks them.

Not once the “Eng. start not possible in 500 miles” error appears and counts down to zero. According to the local MB dealer that cannot be reset or bypassed. MB customer services advised running it down to zero then having Mobilo recover it to the dealer, which I have now done. Still waiting for a NOx sensor (or in fact any communication from the dealer).

Roughly how many miles had you driven after the engine light came on before “Eng. start not possible in 500 miles” message showed ? :(

Sorry to jump on an old thread but just found this.

Uhoh, I've got this issue on my C250D and looking to get it sorted under warranty. New car so the garage gave me 6 months warranty to avoid them having to repair it. Phoned 3 indies today, one said good luck, one said the computer needs a new license from MB and the 3rd is trying to get me a price!

I probably do about 1500-2000 miles/month... Sounds like I might be in trouble unless I source something! Does the adblue issue just need "constantly" topping up?

Don't wishing to depress you but I have the same issue with my C200. Yhe parts are on back order and I have been waiting since April. whereas the car is driveable if you can't get it repaired before your next MOT it constitutes an MOT failure. Sorry but I am in the same boat and things are beginning to worry me as my MOT is yhis coming April. :(

Gulp! My MOT is up in May... I would have thought some clever chaps could just map the sensor out or something?!?

Do you just keep topping up the Ad Blue?
Thanks,
D

I think I know the answer... on auction sites they have replacement parts for ~£150 could these not work?

Heya,

So I’ve had some success… I phoned up a few Indy merc garages that I found on here. One said good luck, one said waiting for a computer license from MB and the other said let me get you a price!

So the third was Avantegarde in Clevedon. A very nice chap and he said “give me a day” and I’ll give you a call back. True enough he did and he said that MB have changed the tech in the sensors and that I needed to replace both (no issue to me as getting done under warranty!). He said give me 2 wks and I’ll chase for a delivery date but he reckon that he could get them by mid Dec!

So I rang him today and he said that something sounded familiar… he went downstairs where a load of parts had been delivered off back order and lo and behold there were my 2 sensors… so I’m all booked in for next Thursday!!!

So, if you’re in/near the SW might be worth giving them a buzz and having a day trip to Clevedon!!!

I’ll keep you posted!

It must have been my lucky day about two weeks ago , my engine management light came on so I pressed the MB breakdown button and was told that it was OK to drive and I should book it into a main dealer. I was about 8 miles from MB Neyland so went straight there on the off chance of getting it looked at that morning. Two hours later and the car's been sorted , Nox sensor faulty and they had the parts in stock and a tech do the work. Wish life was always that easy.

Saw your earlier post… If only everything worked out that way!!

Used to kayak too but mostly near bath and Symonds Yat!

Mine's a SOT and I usually go to a reservoir about 40 miles from home , safety boat etc , so not very exciting , but about a 7 km paddle and it beats going to the gym.

A crisp late November morning. View attachment 134636
Nice... I gave up kayaking a few years back and did paddleboarding for a bit. I mostly did rivers and the Bristol harbour which was nice... just loved the peace and quiet and the sights/sounds! I'm now stuck to a rowing machine to get the blood pumping!

I only started about 18 months ago , Welsh Water spent a few million at Llys Y Fran reservoir and I gave it a try , using one of their SOTs ,liked it , bought my own SOT kayak and I try and get down there once a week . Past 70 now so left it a bit late . :)
