NTG maps upgrade

I have an NTG 2 in my CLK with version 2 of the maps and want to upgrade.

I think £200 as quoted ny the MB dealer is a rip off.

Any suggestions where I can get s cheaper disk and has anyone had asuccess getting any form such places as Ebay.

Does the system also need a software upgrade and is it on the disk or a star job at a dealers or independent .

I have looked at loads of posts and still in the dark. :fail

Hi

Do not use a copied disk - apart from the legal issues, the comand NTG2 units - particularly in a CLK which has little airflow behind the COMAND - just overheat.

If you are trying to save money, get the last version (13) on eBay but make sure that it is a genuine disk and the right one for your car - the picture should have a blue stripe.

To answer the other part of your question, on NTG2 the navigation software and the software for the COMAND user interface is on the map disk.

The other part of the system (the AGW, which contains fibre optic controller, diagnostic interface and radio tuners) needs Star Diagnosis to update it. The last s/w was issued around March 06 so your car probably has it. If the traffic jams appear on the wrong side of the road from TMC then it needs the update

I am after the latest version I can get with a max budget of £100 (and getting ear ache form the wife at that) an I am considering this

That looks right and is from UK and has 'Best Offers' - however, I think you can get V13 for £100 and can get a V12 (from Lithuania, but looks and claims to be genuine) cheaper

Given there are no V13 on eBay if you buy V12 you'll even end up with about £25 spare so you can treat the wife and she'll be happy again

I'd try to get a new V14 myself or a used one. Failing that get V12. There are some people on the pirate sites offering a V13 disk but this was never actually released for NTG2 by Mercedes due to problems with it. Best avoided.

Yes, Alfie is correct. V13 wasn't actually generally released - so finding one is likely impossible. Go with the V12 at £72.50 ..

Does anyone know if I have to chase the dealer up for it (I am guessing yes), whether they might email me (I am guessing no) or if indeed there has been an update since last summer?

If the car is 2011 or later, you get 3 years free map updates from MB - but you need to check that they've actually been installed. I've seen a post either here or t'other side where MB told the poster his Comand had been updated while they serviced the car, but when he looked in the hidden menu he found it had not!

Disappointed with the maps on the latest comand. No where ner as good as the 2010-2011 dvd i had on comand aps in my C55. It has loads of locations missing. Its like apple vs google!

I email customer support around midnight last night asking for information concerning the future of PAN and DUN Bluetooth problems and also asking about the new map available...........

Well today the emailed back. All I gave them in the email was my name and car model and that was all. They responded with my registration number and chassis number! Ok, so a computer recognised my email address perhaps, but most CS dealings I have had, garner no response, or probably "can you tell us your address, the dealer you bought from, the date you purchased and the registration number/chassis number". Well done MB for a prompt and efficient reply.

They told me it's still a no go for Internet with my Android phone (BlueDUN isn't an option with my phone) and that I had map 5.1 and the latest version was 7.0, so I should pop along for an update.

Can't you use the BlueDUN app, specifically mentions it working with COMAND ONLINE?

I know you now have the answer, but if you want to check for yourself in the future, go to the Navigation Updates section of the Mercedes-Benz Accessories site.

You can even register to get an email notification when new cartography is released for your car (navigate to the site homepage, select English language, and its under the Service and Downloads menu).

I now have this map.

Not the latest but good value and better than the version 2 which had donkey tracks on it as it was so old.
