Hi,

I'm retrofitting an NTG2.5 to a 2007 w203 coupe and everything has gone fine so far, but I've no idea how to connect the factory mics to the head unit.

I understand I need the re-routing cable (which I have purchased), but where am I re-routing from? Obviously one end goes into the head unit, but where do I tap into the factory mics?

Thanks in avance!

The factory mic is built into the rear view mirror, however if your car was not factory fitted with COMAND then your rear view mirror won't have the built-in mic.

You could opt to replace the rear view mirror with a replacement unit that has the mic and the same trim colour (new from MB parts, or second-hand from eBay).

Or you could do what Comand Online did for my car, which is fit a tiny aftermarket black mic right next to the base of the mirror.

I can a photo for you tomorrow morning.

I didn't know where the mic was lol; thanks

Thanks for the replies but I'm confused.... If I have prewire with the UHI in the armrest and plugged a Mercedes Bluetooth adapter into it, where would it get mic input from?

Also, comand online doesn't specify that comand is required for the mic extension loom, only prewire is required. It even says on the ntg2.5 upgrade for pre wire cars that it's for cars that have not had comand:

"This is for vehicles with existing phone systems, but which had the Audio-20 / Sound-20 installed already."

Thanks

Richard will be the best to answer this question, I had prewiring in my w211 and changed to the ntg2.5, the mic wire connected to a plug under the nearside rear seat bolster.

Cars with phone pre-wire get microphones in the mirror (or nearby, depending on model/age)

Your W203, being a 2007 with phone-prewire will therefore have microphones in the inside rear-view mirror.

So, you need to get to the connector above it which the mirrors connect to

(ps, there is no easy access intermediate connector on as W203 like there is on the W211)

Thanks Richard... I'm assuming the best route is through the A pillar to the back of the head unit?

I specialise in the BMW e46 and this is my first Mercedes, it seems highly detailed, quality general information is quite hard to come by (not as easy as the e46 anyway!)

Thanks

My 2006 car did not have built-in mic.

Richard fitted this aftermarket mic:

It works very well and it is almost unnoticeable.

If your 2007 car came with built-in mic, you will obviously not need this.

Yeah I've just taken my mirror off and there is the mic wire and connector, and it seems to go down the A pillar on the drivers side.

Anyone know where it terminates and if I can route to the head unit from further down the cable?

Thanks

It terminates at the phone controller in the rear - i.e you have to plug in by the mirror as I said before

Run your new mic cable up the A pillar. avoid the airbag (i.e don't cross over it, cross the A pillar at the top or bottom, otherwise your new cable will prevent the airbag from deploying if its needed.

Hi Viper2488, do you mind sharing how much you paid for the NTG2.5 Command? Been trying to get my hands on one of those.
