... or whatever the correct term is ...

Whilst changing my old scabby plates today two of the tailgate bolts refused to come out unless the threaded insert came with the bolts.

Does anybody know if these are available or will it mean resorting to some DIY bodging ?

Thanks Olly.

Off to the parts department I will go tomorrow.

Worth getting all 4 and change the lot ?

Do away with them completely and stick the plates on. Looks much better IMHO :)

Well, not in stock but I will get them ordered.

Part numbers for reference purposes ...

Screw : A000 990 1229 £ 2.45 + VAT
Retainer : A201 990 0558 £ 1.30 + VAT

I tried to remove my plates last week for exactly the same reason. Top two set screws on the rear plate came out OK, bottom left rotating, bottom right I cannot move. I am in thinking mode but will accept help/advice.

I'd simply replace the lot. That's what I am doing.

Much easier in the long run and just a few quid at the end of the day.

Yes.....that is OK.....did you drill yours out?

Fortunately I didn't need to as two screws came out easily and the other two just spun.

As I was replacing the plates, I cut the perspex away and that allowed me to get a decent grip on the screws and carefully pulled them out.

Until I get my new fittings, the rear plate is held on by two existing screws / fittings.

They only fall off if you don't clean the back of the plate and the paint with Methylated spirit first. All my cars have always had stuck on plates and not one has ever fallen off. In fact the opposite is the case, when I swapped cars and transferred the plate I broke one trying to get it off, it was stuck so well.
You need to use some decent black tape, not the cheap white stuff in the picture above....
