Number plate requirements

I plan to get some of the German number plate holders as I like my plates to be free from bolts/screws.

What are the requirements for information required on the number plate? Obviously the registration number legally spaced correct font etc. I'm thinking that I have seen comments about the plate maker/supplier details need to be on there also?

I'd prefer not to have these if possible, just my minimalist preferences.

The British Standard sets out the physical characteristics on the number plate. This includes:
 • Visibility
 • Strength
 • Reflectivity
The British Standard also requires that a number plate must be marked with the following information: -
 • The British Standard Number (currently BS AU 145d)
 • The name, trade mark, or other means of identification of the manufacturer or component supplier. (The company who actually make the number plate.)
 • The name and postcode of the supplying outlet. (The 'supplying outlet' is taken to mean a company whose business consists wholly or partly of selling number plates.)
 • A non-reflective border and the Euro-symbol with the national identification letters are optional additions.
 • There shall be no other markings or material contained on the number plate.

However, whenever I have new ones made I just put the registration number on a nothing else for the same reason as you. A minimalistic clean look.

I'd be VERY surprised if you were pulled over for not having the euro logo on your car. And as an Englishman quite outraged as well of course.

The Euro logo is optional.

However, the BS mark and name/postcode of the plate maker are mandatory. You won't be pulled over for not having them, but you may be fined if it's noticed when you've been stopped for something else.

Mocas is quite right it's just another reason to give you a £60 fine if the BS mark and postcode are not on there for non conforming plates. I have heard of FPN's being issued around here for this very reason by over zealous cops.

I suspect it will be an MOT fail as well?

It ought to be, but tales abound of such details being overlooked at MoT time as it's not always easy to determine when the plate was actually made up (and thus which regulations apply to it). I suppose it depends on how rigorous (not to say zealous) the individual tester is.

I had a number plate holder on my SLK but the plate kept falling off so I used the existing screw holes to fix the plate directly to the back of the car.

I use 3m double sided tape for the ultimate clean look.
