Just been on to the DVLA website and am slightly confuesd.
I want to retain a number plate and understand that I have to fill out a V317 form, do I also need to fill out a V62 for retaining a plate?
Thanks

No, if you own the car and the plate you want to retain and you want to put the plate on a certificate then just the 317 and the pay the fee. Otherwise you may have to complete the v62 form.

Can confirm the above, done the same last week.

Sorry if this is hijacking the thread, but it is on-topic - honest!

I have a personal reg on a car which has been in my ownership for years and years. It is currently on SORN and has been for the last 3 or 4 years. Trouble is, it's not worth trying to put on the road now - it's worth b*gg*r all and it is not economical to spend any more money on it.

The question is, the plate is arguably the only valuable bit on it, so can I transfer it off, or put it on retention with the car in its current state?

Or have we lost it (unless we can tax/test the car again), and it is a case of buying a number, but not never really owning it?

Rules are that if SORN, the car must be less than 12 months from when last taxed.

Regardless, it has to have an MOT!

That's correct, you only need to send a V62 if you haven't got both parts of the V5 in your posession.
