This may seem an odd question, but it's not to me.

I picked my car up just over a week ago, the log book came back today, which in turn means I can now put my own plate on it.

So....

The dealer stuck the temporary plate on with the sticky back things, but I realise that merc plates are normally held in place with 4 screws.

Are the screws "special" or will any similar sized self tappers do?

If the screws are MB parts and "cheap" I'll go get some obviously.

Thanks for any help.

Yes there are MB part no's for the correct screws. Do a search, I think Partspecialist (Gareth from MB Manchester) listed them recently...

i just went in and asked for some rear number plate screws. the parts guy got 4 and passed them over FOC.

71p each, so not fortunes.

keep the stick on stuff IMHO.

Looks much cleaner and nicer

What's the best stick on stuff to use?

I need to replace my cracked number plates. I don't want to use screws ideally as I think the sticky stuff looks better but does anyone know what the best stuff is to use?

Hi all by the way - I'm a newbie. Been reading all your excellent posts and looking forward to getting involved.

another way of getting the cleaner look if getting the number plate mounts from the stealers, screwing these on and the plate sticks on top. I`ll take some pics when ive put mine on.

My number plate screws on the rear had corroded on, so had to drill 2 of them out. just got the bootlid side parts and will try and find some time tonight to put the mount and rear plate back on!

i got mine from Halfords - used several of them on several cars. COmes with an alcholic wipe to clean the area 1st.

Never had one unstick...

Picture here of mine screwless plate (sorry about the image size, at work cant re-size). Frame was about £4. It doesnt need any sticky pads and the surround has a locking mech to hold the plate in place.

Where were they from KillerHERTZ ?

Thanks to all the rest for the responses.

From your local dealership, ask for the unbranded version. :)
