Anyone know what size part 41 here is?

I want to replace the seal (part 35) so need to get a big socket/box spanner to undo this nut?

Also anyone know the torque wrench setting for doing it back up?

Prob only way to tell is to pop out oil filter and cap and have a measure, i bet its not very big at all, as it looks like the spiky end of the oil filter cap with its o rings fits inside it.

It's bigger than an inch and half - had a look at the last oil change and realised I didn't have anything big enough to undo it.

Yep thats rates as pretty big:) i just googled the nut/fitting part number and a couple prices came up close to $15 so may be worth buying one to enable you scrounge a socket to fit.
As if its that large a nut in the bottom of the housing a std thick wall socket may be to fat and you may need a thin wall one.

Steve - i *believe* i used a 45mm nut to take mine off - do you have the oil leak which is dripping onto the aux belt? This happened to me and was coming from the seals between the oil cooler and the filter housing.

Ended up finding a socket large enough in halfords of all places!

BTW I found the size by emptying out as much oil as i could from the housing, then placing a disc of stiff paper down the housing to get an imprint of the nut.

Replaced the oil cooler seals at the last oil change, but didn't do the filter housing then as the nut was so big (should have measured then really) - another oil change due soon, so hoping to do then.

The answer to my question.

Steve - i *believe* i used a 45mm nut to take mine off...

I just replaced the seal using a 1 13/16" socket which equates to 46mm - there was a little slack, but when I checked the fit with the nut off I it didn't look 1mm to the naked eye (but could have been - didn't think to measure the nut for the benefit of others:doh:). Halfords and the local car shop did this size but not 45mm so I did a calculation in the shop and took a punt on the 1 13/16".

Needed to wind the torque wrench upp to 110Nm to get it undone - did it back up to 85Nm - increasing in 5Nm steps, after about 65Nm it locked solid and the wrench just clicked each extra 5Nm so I left it at 85. Chap on mbworld.org suggested 60-80Nm so I wasn't going to push it and will keep an eye on it (changing the oil tomorrow so will check again then after a it's had a short trip in the morning).

Old seal came out in one peice but was quite stiff and compressed - hopefully having replaced the oil cooler seals allready any sign of leak from that area will how have gone!

Ah ha! 46mm, i knew there was a reason i put stars round the believe ;)

The difference was immediate when i replaced mine, gunked and jet washed the block down and everything has been hunky dory since with mine in that respect.
