Well after fitting new brake pads all round, 4 new tyres, and 4 new shock absorbers, my 190E now handles like a merc. Nice and smooth, with enough feel to be pleasant while still retaining that "floating on a cloud feeling". the front shocks turned out to be one of those satisfying jobs as well, becasue they were an utter pig (lots of seized - I broke my vice trying to undo the top nut) but afterwards it was so nice.
Now to start on the engine. Bit of oil weep from the front, could be head gasket time. Its losing enough oil out of it to be annoying.
