Has anyone set up their own OBD-2 scanner. I assume you just need a laptop, the software download from obd-2.com and the cable and connectors, but maybe I'm wrong.

OBD2 scanner

Yes MainMan, you will need the software, a laptop and the interface that connects between the laptop and car. Have a look at www.digimoto.com, I can recommend them. Have you thought of a handheld scanner as an alternative? I have just added to my laptop setup with one from www.canobd2.com. The canobd2 tool 3110, very easy to use and fast in operation. You won't be dissappointed with it.

Thanks for the info Vic. I guess I'll go with the cheapest option. It's actually cheaper to buy the software and the lead than to get a garage to read it for you. £65 for 5 minutes work!

vic - I assume that you have the scantool kit then? I have the same thing - but I have yet to get it to read pending codes (I dont have a MIL light on my car - so the only way know it has 'faults' is with a scanner...

If i force a fault (;like pull off the temp sensor) then I can read it. Yet I KNOW that there are other faults stored on it..

any pointers? what software do ytou run (I have digimoto as well - from www.gendan.co.uk )
