I have the Torque app and a bluetooth OBD II dongle.. Was just wandering, do all fault codes show on both the OBD scanners and Star scanner? Or is there some MB faults that only Star can pick up?

ODBII is an industry standard that covers engine management and transmission faults.

STAR is a propriety MB diagnostics computer that covers the entire vehicle (or at lease those systems that have an ECU that can communicate data).

ODBII code scanning is included in STAR but it is in fact only a very small part of what STAR covers.

In addition STAR can collect and analyse live data, configure many of the car's systems from the instrument cluster to the alarm system, and also communicate with MB's central computer in Germany e.g. when registering retrofitted options.

Also, there are non-MB scanners that cover additional propriety MB systems such as ABS/ESP, AirBag/SRS, etc (which are not part of the generic ODBII protocol), but none covers as fully as STAR.

It is also possible to get STAR 'clones' for considerably less than what an original MB STAR would cost, but I am not sure what legal issues may be involved.

The Torque app will only pick up engine codes, but should pick them all up (if that makes sense)

Unlikely all if all proprietary codes are considered. Sometimes even the official tool does not do it before updates.

Torque app does SRS lights on some mercs also.
